"Difference" was my album of the year for 2004 but as of yet I have not heard "Do Dallas".

*hangs head*

But "She Will Only Bring You Happiness" is THE FUCKING JAM.

in philly Falkous actually dedicated that one and "Falco Vs. the Young Canoeist" to me. I was rocked to the point of ultra rockage.

nah I just had talked to him for awhile the last time they had played town and he remembered me. So this time around we were talking for awhile during the openers' set and I offered to buy him a beer. He said no, since they were getting them for free. so I bought him a chimay (which I know they weren't getting free and that he drinks) and he was really cool about the whole thing. We talked until he literally just stepped on to the stage and towards the end of the night he was like "that last song was for cotton. and fuck it, this one is for cotton too". He was awesome, though I have to say the bassist was kinda of a dick. I think they had stopped speaking to each other by that point.

the first time i saw them they got pissed at the old drummer and falkous was yelling at him for like the last 3 or 4 songs. we talked to him and jon afterwards and they were kind of bummed that they thought they put on a bad show but we reassured them that it was all kinds of awesome.

i think i'm putting that best of/live/rarities in my top 3 of 2006 without having heard it yet.

so tell me about the show... was it like a total rock show like their albums? did they soften it a bit since they were in such a small place? did they play all their hits? i will definitely be talking to you about this whenever i see you again.

"pain and sadness..." = good
"difference..." = great
"do dallas" = incomprehensibly phenominal

i had the pleasure of catching them at the black cat in dc in 2003 and 2004 and on those nights, i experienced something resembling screaming welsh nirvana.

in summation, i enjoyed mclusky a great deal and am sorry that they have left us.

it was loud as fuck, but not in an annoying way, if that makes any sense. from what I remember, they played pretty much an equal amount from do dallas and 'the difference...' i know there's an EP or full length before Do Dallas, which I've never heard, and I can't remember if they played anything from that. but the whole set was just so goddamned primal and awesome and i think added to the fact it was at schubas made for a great, great night.
