In the early summer of 1999, David, Jonas, Mats and Simon started getting intimate with their guitars in an old candy factory. From this seed a whole new twist on music has sprouted and today Sickoakes consists of a, at most times, six man strong orchestra playing instrumental, cinematic music best categorized under the genre of postrock.

Over the years Sickoakes has been performing all around Sweden, recording songs at soylent green studios, and releasing it on a 12" split vinyl (with Audionom) and a countless number of single copy CD-Rs.

Sickoakes will release their debut album on one of my favorite labels, Type Records March 20th. It's such a massive recording. Here's a track from it for everyone to check out.

That's a keeper. I pictured scenes from Solaris while listening to it.

It's like The Edge doing a Durutti Column song.

Love it. Thanks.

oh shit, Solaris. right on.

the album has a lot of spacious, organic bits, featuring field recordings and other ambient influenced moments. not just your run of the mill quiet-loud-quiet band.

Type scored once again signing these guys.

You had me at "postrock".

Actually, you had me a couple words 'fore that, with 'cinematic' and 'orchestra'.

Hey Dalen, we might crack jokes about Britpop and you focusing on up-to-the-nanosecond acts, but I gotta admit some of these tune a day tracks have gotten me interested in groups I'd never heard of, particularly Slavic-Scandinavian ones.
