9/something/05... I honestly don't know today's date. Judge me.

Sorry to post again so soon, but inspiration strikes on the elevator.

To the middle-aged, female faculty-types: Navy skirt suit, orange pantyhose and white reebok hightops says "I've given up."

Quiz time...

Let's just say it's, oh, 7 or 8 pm, and you're in your building on campus working late, and you stroll into one of the men's rooms way up on your obscure floor, and as you're taking a leak, you hear something that sounds an awful, awful lot like the "low battery" beep from an IBM Thinkpad laptop coming from the closed sit down stall at the end of the row. You do not see any shoes under the door, but the door is closed.
- The building has wi-fi, of course.
- Yes, you are sure you heard it.

Thoughts?

Grab a mop from the utility closet and knock the door down. If someone is in there, plead ignorant.

Believe me, they don't put the project assistants in charge of cleaning the men's rooms. PA's write newsletters, administrate the databases, and do research.

And possibly tug one out late at night in the bathroom stalls, from what I'm guessing.

Actually, we have a similar system in place here.

Quickly form a Farraday Cage around said stall and connect it to ground.

Hilarity ensues.

I'm just gonna put this out there - If you can't stay awake through a 1:00-2:15 class, drop out. Similarly, if you can't remember to turn your goddam cellphone off before class, throw it out the 5th story window, and then jump out after it.

The level of coursework I'm doing, the work it takes to get in here, the incredible pedigree of the man / woman standing in front of you trying to educate your dumb ass so you can go make dat money, and you can't pull it together enough to fucking stay awake?

To wit: today a guy is openly sleeping during the entire class. Teacher (who is EXCELLENT, very animated, very engaging) stood right the hell in front of him for almost the entire period, talking / looking at the person sitting next to him, and the guy couldn't manage to keep his eyes open. There were about 7 of us around the room making eye contact over it, biting a knuckle to keep from laughing.

I never looked like a Janitor either when I did work study as a Grad Student, I used to wear huge stereo headphones and rock out while I cleaned kitchens at the Union. During the cold months, I would usually wear a hoodie and/or a knit cap because it was freaking cold with the service doors open on a regular basis.

When I first started working there people would tell me I had to leave the building because it was closed for the night, and I would have to reply that I was working.

I was trying to decide what I would've done if I were teaching. On the lighter side, maybe pass him a note without interrupting the lecture saying "maybe you need to excuse yourself," and on the heavier side perhaps stopping the lecture and publically inviting him to go sleep out in the hall. Either way it's too much of a distraction (to say nothing of how insulting it is) to let it go the whole time.

PS: An "F" Haq? C'mon man... I deserve at least a D. Haven't I sacrificed enough for obner?

10/17:

The Simspsons.

Marketing class, and they put up a chart with various factors on each axis, talking about what kind of products you could roll out, and one's called the "Me Too" product, with no distinction from other offerings in the marketplace. His discription is dead-on from that episode where marge busts up the counterfeit jeans ring, and Homer says something about "harworking designers like Gloria Vanderbilt and Antoine Bugleboy who saw an over-crowded market and said 'Mee tooooo!'"

Accounting class, and prof mentions that Fisher-Price actually runs a daycare facility somewhere, and they roll out new toys and then watch the kids play with them through one-way glass! Funzo, anybody? I had no idea that bit was based in reality.

This all just goes to show you that business school is really nothing more than Simpsons episodes with some heavy math thrown in.

**Oh, and that beeping laptop noise coming from the bathroom stall that night... figured that one out. The auto-flush thingies have batteries in them of course, and when the battery gets low, it beeps just like an IBM Thinkpad does. I feel better now.

2/7: DAT FREE STEAK DINNER

You read right. A certain company is coming to recruit folks for internships, and they've perused the resumes, and come up with ten or so of us they want to talk to. Phase one is a nice dinner on Them tonight, followed by a round of interviews tomorrow.

I'm suited up, I smell fanfuckingtastic, and I'm starving. I'm gonna eat like it's on sale for $19.99.

Wish my stupid ass luck. I need dat summer jobbyjob.

close. delmonico's. If things don't seem to be going well at first, I'm going straight for the lobster and the top-shelf scotch.

Some snippets of conversation with various employees..

- "...and so I get to see first hand how the government works -"
(me) - "or doesn't work (smile)."
- "ah ha ha, no pun intended!"
(me) - "Oh no, it was intended."
-silence-

etc.
