Ooh yeh, ain't it annoying when someone dares to disagree over Pitchfork's album of the year?

you gotta admit, it's pretty transparent when you do it. was there any chance that you'd like their number one? not really, they don't really cover the music that you like.

That ike reilly album sounds like a bad mix of The Offspring and John Mellencamp.

I guess that's not my type of music either. Considering what you dig i can see how you wouldn't like a lot of good stuff.

don't be so condescending. he's arrogant about his music, but what it boils down to is that he likes really, really traditional rock, period, and as such it'd be foolish to expect that he would agree with you or any indie-aimed site on what was worthwhile in a year. it'd be the same as showing me the Source's (is that still a magazine?) top ten list of the year and then expecting that i'd be in complete agreement.

I know what you're saying chase, but i get tired of Radcliffe jumping into threads just to be a condescending ass. I'm just dishing a bit back.

It's providing me with humor before i trek back to Washington and am away from a computer for 12 days.

And when did you decide to actually listen to that album?

The last I remember, you were formulating opinions on it without ever having heard it.

Aw shit, Dinky, did I forget to PM you with the news that I'd actually heard the album? A tragic oversight on my part.

The point was that you'd already made up your mind about it long before you'd ever heard it based solely on that fact that a lot of other people liked it.

Arcade Fire is my #1. I'm pretty sure I'll still think this album is great a year from now as well as 10 years from now. For me, albums like this come along about once every 2-3 years.

Does Meta Critic do a best of the year? I think that would be cool to see. I think their system is probably the best one out there and it would be interesting to see a list of the albums that scored the highest for the year or something.

But that's sorta my complaint - Pitchfork does (obstensibly) cover the music I like, which I would characterize as non-mainstream, interesting, iconoclastic, independent music created with an aim for art over commerce. I don't care that an album I don't particularly appreciate is lauded as the best - but after consecutive years of Interpol/Rapture/Arcade Fire getting the #1 nod, I'm seeing proof that the entire "indie" community Pitchfork represents has deteriorated into a codified cultural movement. So I'm gonna kick against it. And if I can piss off folks like Drinky Crow, DHRjericho, and BeeOK in the process, then that's just a fringe benefit.

well then it sounds like your problem is with pitchfork more than it is with the arcade fire, which certainly fits the criteria that you've listed.

"folks like"...?

A. You know exactly jack shit about me.

B. I don't give a shit whether or not you like anything I do or vice versa. Over the year or so I've been around this community I learned that our tastes practically never intersect.

C. What pisses me off about you isn't your "calling out" of this "codified cultural movement", but it's your staggering self-importance and condescencion. You're not the first person to make any of your precious "observations", and you don't even do it as well as Chris Ott.

D. Trying to have a rational discussion with you is clearly out of the question. You just want to stir shit up. Fine. You're a fucking troll.

I llike the new Ike Reily just fine; yeah its rock, but since when did that become a problem. Its simple, hooky, drunk music. I would (and quite frankly have) put it on in a bar and at a party. People like it despite not knowing the difference between Ike and Poo Poo Bear or whoever, which brings me too.....

That Animal Collective is the biggest piece of GARBAGE I have ever listened to. I've had the damn thing for at least 3 months; I leave it in my truck because I do a lot of hard listening in there. I try, at least once a week....I just don't get it.

And I like the Arcade Fire just fine. If not for "The Dirty South" it would be my favorite of the year. It doesn't get old---even the less than stellar tunes.

Edit: You guys are a bunch of fucking sissies

Obviously you're an idiot. Why else would i mention Ike Reilly if i didn't see what you mentioned?

Wow.
