Leaving work early to cash check, get son and go to Target. Then we'll order in dinner and watch a movie. He'll go to bed and I'll read.

Husband is on plane in couple hours to go home to NH til Monday for his nephew's christening.

Tomorrow my son wants to go have lunch in Chinatown so we will. Then we'll grocery shop and hang out. I just inherited two pieces of furniture for his room so we're going to clean out, purge his room of everything useless and condense things so that they go into these pieces. that'll be a 3 hour project.

Sunday: Whatever my kid wants to do. Either Art Institute or a movie, or if I know him"Can't we just stay in today and play and watch movies mommm".

Otherwise I'm going to watch a couple flicks and read a lot when he's sleeping.

Some of those old school southern recipes though---sheesh, no wonder peoples hearts were exploding at like age 50.

I bought a 1940's Betty Crocker cookbook at an estate sale once. I swear to god, every single one starts with "Melt 4 pounds of hogfat over a slow fire."

I need to get out to L.A.
Clearly

Tonight - pay bills, watch 2-hour AD, even though I've seen none of this year's episodes. My homey's gf's play opens tonight and I'll likely meet up w/ them and the rest of the cast afterward for dranks.

Sat - Oil change. Clean up my place. Tentative plans to go to Dorkwave in Detroit.

Sunday - Going to comedy show by Katt Williams for a story, then meet up w/ him at an afterparty... if I can dodge the prosties wandering the street outside the nightclub. I love this town!

tonight - leave early to take pups to vet, dinner and a movie with the mister

tomorrow - don't know yet... probably laundry and house-cleaning

sunday - bike ride in the morning ("worst day of the year" ride), probably chilling the rest of the afternoon. I've got a slew of Charlie Chaplin movies on dvd to get through.

yeah pretty much. ;) actually, this funk night is every 2nd friday of the month in long beach.

the only other "funk" night in la would be at star shoes every other saturday night, but it's a cheesy hollywood crowd... cut chemist spins.

That a bad thing? I've been a J5/Ozo fan for a while now, so I like the guy. Met him @ the Vote For Change concert in Det on '04. Seemed like a good dude. Nu Mark walked by, didn't say much.

I was wondering where you were going to funk night. Not true that star shoes is only other "funk" night. Zanzibar, Temple Bar, and Little Temple Bar have funk nights regularly. Zanzibar even has a Brazilian Soul & Funk Night monthly 8)

westside still = la

I met a friend in Westwood for drinks the other night and was surprised that it only took me 15 minutes to get there from Los Feliz. Going to the westside is really no big deal.

the Brazilian night is usually every third Wednesday of the month although they skip some months. I think the djs are from KCRW. They're labeling it "Brazilian and World Grooves" so I don't know whether they've changed their format. They never called it Brazilian Soul and Funk but that's all they played the three times I went. But they play great stuff and mostly incredibly obscure stuff. Ocassionally, they'll have a live band made up of LA based Brazilians play a set or two and have samba dancers. The nights I've gone there were more Brazilians there than hipsters but it may just be the band's following. After Miami, there are more Brazilians in LA than any other city in the country. I think its about .5 million now.

They have a Bossa Nova night and an Afro Funke night too but I've never been to either of those. I love that place though...I really can't explain why I don't go more often.

i know it's still la, but i'm lazy. i avoid the westside as much as possible. ;) the bossa nova nights are pretty awesome - seen quite a few dj's there: spinna, recloose, mark farina. mr. scruff, amongst a bunch of others.. but this wed night sounds interesting, i might have to go check that out sometime.

Friday: Dunno, pretty much done for the day except faxing some tax shit to our fine boohoo accountant; time for a drink here pretty soon. dig out some recipes for DayStar.
Tonight: some dude that the gf works with is moving so I gotta go to a "going away" deal at a bar.....I predict tears and a call to Jimmy the Cabby.

Saturday: House shit, laundry, need to catch up on the 12 Miami Vice episodes burning a hole in my DVR.

Sunday: quality time with my lady.

Also, my next door neighbors are having a two day yard sale and everybody seems to like using MY driveway as a turnaround so I'm gonna go construct something to stop this. Just because I have the nicest, widest driveway on the block doesnt mean that you cant drive another 100 yards and use the cul-de-sac like a human being. STAY. OFF. OF. MY. PROPERTY.
