The thread about the first song to play to a baby got me thinking about what would be worst music for a baby to be exposed to. In my opinion it would be stuff like slayer, butthole surfers, and Black Flag

My attitude is -- if it's bad for an adult, it's bad for the baby.

Wrong. It's good to play noise for babies. It'll raise their threshold and improve the sophistication of their tastes down the line.

It would be detrimental to play them Michael Jackson.

Winner. Let's nip this problem in the bud.

I suspect they'd find Merzbow, Whitehouse, et al, soothing.

Heh heh. I saw this come through special orders at the store I used to work at. Actually... it looks like it would be quite nice.... and I think that's the point they're trying to make with it.

If you don't allow Wu-Tang, hundreds of children are going to have to listen to Return to the 36 Chambers to know what their father was like...

Don't let a baby listen to Coldplay - unless, of course, you want it to grow up and iron creases into its jeans.

...and again

broadway musicals or opera, no offense, but the kid would either become freakishly giddy as a teletubby or pounded in submission by overwrought bellowing
