start a music thread, then start an "obner sucks" thread when not enough people respond. not a jab.

but i started that thread because obner sucked that day, not because nobody responded to my thread. and people did respond to it, just not me.

this comes out at the end of the month. or, rather, its coming out on a bigger label...

here's a rough review of what i thought of it:

On their debut full-length "Everything Is," Nine Black Alps herald back to the '90s when the term "Alternative" actually sort of meant something. With the heavy guitars of Nirvana and the melodies of Jane's addiction, bands like the Foo Fighters and Jawbox took elements of grunge and tried to mold them into their own. The Manchester quartet finds itself in the same place, mixing their hard rock with killer hooks. Cuts like "Unsatisfied" and "Just Friends" are modern rock radio-ready, with predictable structures, big guitars and delicious choruses. Then, one may realize that "Everything Is" is everything big, addictive, inpenetrable, save softies "Behind Your Eyes" and "Intermission." With grumpy, moody lyrics, Nine Black Alps make forceful, if somewhat unoriginal, music; but for what they lack in ingenuity, they make up for by turning each song into an event.

summary: eh. its awright.

I agree with what everyone's written here. Best Buy has it for $7, so I got it on a whim.

Reminds me of Nirvana/Sex Pistols. Sounds best loud.

BB also has a 4-track Yeah Yeah Yeahs EP, with Gold Lion, Let Me Know (demo) GL (Diplo remix) and GL (Nick Zinner remix).

I don't dig what I've heard, which is only a few songs a bandmate played in the car for me.

Saw them play 2 tunes on t.v. this past weekend, i think on Kimmel, and I dug it even less.

Bought it today on sale. I like it. Agree with the Janes Addiction similarities on a few tracks. I would say I equate them to a Brit Local H. Much of the same rockage and riffage being touted by both. I dig.
