Okay, who remembers this band? I remember liking at least 2 of their releases...Walking in the Shadow of the Big Man and Flip-Flop.

Didn't know there was a re-released CD of 2x4 with bonus tracks until just now. Worth picking up?

And whatever the hell happened to Murray Attaway? That one CD he put out (with Jon Brion playing on it) was real enjoyable. But that was like a dozen years ago.

I haven't heard the reissues but certainly remember the band. I liked 'em enough and owned the three albums you mentioned in the 80's but sold them off at some point.

If you're a fan though and want these, don't sit on your hands for too long. They came out on Rhino Handmade as limited edition numbered copies (2500 copies only). I procrastinated on their Eddie Hazel and Crazy Horse reissues myself, both of which are now out of print again and fetching crazy prices on ebay.

Edit: not sure you know this but in addition to 2X4, Rhino also reissued Walking in the Shadow of the Big Man

Double Edit: I should read more closely before I post. I think you're saying you're not familiar with 2X4 and asking if its worth getting? You seem to be a bigger Guadalcanal Diary fan than me, but I'd say 2X4 was their best album so if you like their other albums you'd likely dig it.

Yes, 2x4 is worth grabbing, if only for "Littany" and "Little Birds". Don Dixon's production is top notch.

I put "Shadow" on my Listmania, even though it's more of an ep than an album. "Flip Flop" tends to get overlooked, but it's great. I've put "Pretty Is As Pretty Does" and "The Likes Of You" on many mixes.

Believe it or not, I almost posted this exact thread on Monday after seeing a Hoodoo Gurus video on VH1 Classic.

I absolutley loved Flip Flop. Definitely a formative record for me. Murray Attaway is still kicking around doing solo stuff if I'm not mistaken.

They weren't around very long, but I sure did listen to them a heck of a lot in the late 80's. Part of the better end of the wave of "other R.E.M.s."

I liked Guadacanal Diary back in the day - but saw them in '86 opening for REM, and all I remember about their live show was that they came across as total dicks. Don't even remember why anymore.

Probably for having to put up with REM for weeks on the road.

I liked them then.

That Michael Rockefeller song gets stuck in my head at times.
I think my mom stole my cassette like 20 years ago.

Yeah, probably so, but Mike Mills seemed a good dude in my brief encounter with him.
