I guess I'm probably the only one here who thinks Beggars Banquet is one of the least consistent Stones albums from the late 60's/early 70's and that Astral Weeks isn't VM's best.

As you probably are well aware:
Inconsistent Stones = Better than everything else, anyway.

I understand what you mean, but read Bloor's comments. Sure, I don't Lurv Street Fighting Man, but if they put out Metal Machine Music with Stray Cat Blues as a hidden track, it still might be the 3rd or 4th best album of the 1960s.

I love it, but it's about 4th on my fave Stones list. Admittedly, those albums ranking above it on my Stones list are all practically perfect, and when ranking my favourite albums of that year it does not immediately spring to mind. The Beatles is quite good as well, but is bloated a bit for me. Johnny's album is awesome and contains some of my all time favourite songs, but I'd be a liar if I said it means as much to me as a cohesive whole. Music from the Big Pink is excellent, but I've not absorbed that album as much as White Light White Heat or Astral Weeks.

I'm actually a bit more surprised that more people haven't voiced up for VU.

Leonard Cohen.

Really though it is a tie between him, Kinks, Velvet Underground, Beatles, and Van Morrison. This year is loaded.

IMO no. I was very disappointed with it.

Not mentioned:

Byrds: Notorious Byrd Brothers - I kind of understand why Sweetheart gets hype for historical reasons, but this one is their most perfect/least flawed album IMO.
Terry Riley: In C Just played it by coincidence
Everly Brothers: Roots I think they have a new 60s comp; not sure how much of this is on it

Of the listed choices:
Odessey is forever a kick & Electric Ladyland's still a trip. It's easy to nitpick a flaw on any double so I'll go with the Zombies as 'more perfect'.

I voted Zombies.

But really, I consider this the best year in music history. So it was really hard.

I went for Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat. Tons of great albums, though.
