In Ruston, La. there was this Jiffy Lube-type quickie oil change shop that would put up these goofy or funny sayings on their sign to draw attention to the business, since it was sort of stuck in a more residential location.

My favorite: "Smiling is the second best thing you can do with your mouth."

Why do a bunch of these signs look damaged? Is someone going around bashing at these things with baseball bats and automobiles?

Anyone remember National Lampoon magazine used to have a section where they'd showcase a bunch of signs like this?

When I was in high school, I had a couple of the book compilations.

Shiv, I remember that. My friend and I always wanted to send a local muffler shop sign that reads "No Muff is Too Tuff".

Yeah me too. I wonder if I still have them at my parents house?

There's a sporting goods/outfitter type store around here that does the goofy sign thing too. My favorite was, "Now is the winter of our discount tents".

I shot this one a couple of years ago concerning Jesus' problem with premature ejaculation:

I have to resist the urge to put snarky stuff on my message board. I've always wanted to put something like "Store Here--We're Just Better People" but the closest I've gotten is "A Better Place To Store Your Stuff" among others.

Actually, there is a Red Hot & Blue here that puts crazy shit on the sign. I think this week it says:

Dinner Specials for Hallmark--er, Valentine's Day
