i THINK that my subwoofer is catching one side of someone's CB radio conversation, at the very least that's what sounds like is coming out of it. it happens even when the computer's off. at first i thought that i was in a Michael Keaton movie and it freaked me out, but now it's been a few months and i've learned to deal. anyone EVER heard of this happening?

Hmm. I've never heard of that, but if you drop your AM dial down to the very low end of the frequency, sometimes you can pick up cordless phone conversations.

It can happen- someone close to you has a souped up base-station probably putting out a bazillion watts. Look for a big ass antenna somewhere close by in your neighborhood. When you find it, reason with the owner, since he's most likely breaking the law. If that fails, hand grenades work miracles.

In general, cords work like antennas. Longer the cord, better the reception, hence guitars / basses picking up agricultural comodities reports. You running a 25-foot cable to your sub?

my speakers began picking up disturbance when i started using wifi on my computer, so it sounds like a completely plausible situation.

this happened to me in college. i lived across a parking lot from a radio station and the speakers would sometimes pick up their transmissions. i didn't know enough about speakers then to know if it was wired probably, but i'm guessing not. it'd be very annoying when we'd dj parties and you'd hear their broadcasts when songs died down.

When I'm at home, I know when I'm about to get a call/text on my cell because my speakers start feeding back.

I used to get a local Taxi Hire firm (it's just up the road) when I used my headphones.

I found the antenna the other day. it's exactly what you expected, it's running up the trunk of a tree 30 feet in the air or so. I can't decide what i should do. I'm inclined to talk to the guy, but i'm also inclined to just destroy it. unfortunately, he's up on this radio at all hours and i expect that he's a meth addict. any advice?

The all-hours thing isn't necessarily a big deal, but the meth factor would make me leery unless I had access to one-bullet stopping power or a brace of angry fighting cocks.

Seriously, if there's a chance that dude is a squacker and you don't want to fuck with him face-to-face, the local FCC can probably shut him down, but that shee can take along time. And nothing to say he won't crank it right back up.

Fuck it, cut the coax. And keep cutting it.
