I've never heard anything by her before but she's Waylon Jennings' widow and she's playing at the Viper Room Wed. w/ Tony Joe White and her son, Shooter Jennings.

I'd just go, but Archer Prewitt is the same night and I'm leaning towards seeing him. Obninions though? Is she a great artist in her own right or just making a name off the family name?

She was a pretty significant contributer to this album, but I think she's best known as Waylon's spouse than for her individual output.

Crap, man, I'd go for Tony Joe, even if he doesn sing any leads. Tony Joe is The Man.

I would too if Archer Prewitt wasn't the same night. I'm also not sure how involved he is -- whether he opens or just is part of her band for this show.

could you catch part of one, and then go to the other, or do they have the same start time, or are the clubs too far apart?

I only know her from that Outlaws album. I dunno, her songs on that album are just OK. I'm not sure what material she is doing or who she is playing with now though----could be interesting.

I can send you her stuff from the Outlaws album when I get home later if you like.

Thanks thats what I was looking for.

Edit: thanks for the offer, but no need to send the songs. i'll take your word for it.

I think it would be difficult to swing both shows so I'll just do the Prewitt one.

Tony Joe White's been playing around la a bit so hopefully I have other opps to see him.

I only know her from the Outlaws, too, and while I wouldn't call her great, I would be hesistant to call her a coattail rider either. I think she married Duane Eddy before Waylon.

I can see how Archer Prewitt could be a more obvious choice here, but Jesse's career may have been more than it turned out to be had she NOT been Mrs. Jennings. A fairly talented songwriter (I'm Not Lisa speaks Country witha big C) and a lovely voice (her vocals on White Mansions are haunting). I wouldn't mind catching her and Shooter together, with Tony Joe White along to add some swamp tones.

I guess I should add that Archer Prewitt "Wilderness" was #2 on my listmania. I'm a big fan of his.

I thought it was worth inquiring whether Jessi Colter was a bigger name than I knew. I can see the show having a great deal of upside potential, but unless someone can tell me that I'm really screwing up in skipping it than I'm going to the Prewitt show.

I wish it were a different night and not a conflict, but I supose its par for the course in LA and overall a good problem to have.

Wasn't she responsible for that "I'm Not Lisa" song? That abominable piece of shit alone negates her proximity to Waylon and her album cover hott-itude.

She's the one, yeah. She also did "What's Happened To Blue Eyes," "Storms That Never Last," "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," "Is There Any Way You'd Stay Forever," "That's The Way A Cowboy Rocks And Rolls" and a bunch more I have no reason to try to remember.
