they kill an insect? it's "just an insect" but insects breed, and they have families to look after.
they feel pain as well.. especially if you don't kill them with one hit with your shoe.

i felt really terrible tonight, the typical response when i see a spider is "shit i see a spider" and i immediately find something to kill it.
usually i'll try to pick the insect up with a piece of paper or cloth to cover it so it won't crawl on me and i'll put it outdoors, but my room is on the second story of my house.

i killed it... it took three hits with my shoe.
i feel really terrible. i felt really awful when i hit it the second time and it went to run away from me despite the fact that half of its legs were smeared across my cabinet.

i know it's nothing really significant. but it made me feel like a sick person.
i know, we kill bugs everyday. it's just sort of sad.

But in the theory that they have families to take care of, wouldn't picking up said insect and taking it outside be the same as one of yr parents mysteriously dissappearing only to find out they've been taken to say California?

i don't know why i'm starting to feel bad about it.

i used to burn spiders with curling irons and let them jump around before i would drown them in lotion and flush them down the toilet.

yeah that's very true.. but i don't know where they came from in the first place.
i know ants stick together. i'm not sure about other insects.
atleast they'd be outside rather than dead.

you're right, though. i never thought about that. now i'm going to feel bad about relocating them. but they are NOT sleeping in bed with me, so it's die or relocate.

it's dumb for me to feel bad, considering i love steak which comes from a much larger and "more significant" organism.

I've been brought up to respect life and am loathe to kill most bugs. They pretty much fascinate me.

I'll never forget when a childhood friend had rigged up a string over a tree limb with some sort of heavy object on the end. He was using the object to bludgeon a praying mantis. :(

too late for that. millions of tiny insects (mites) are living in yr bed, your clothes, and you right this minute! freak out!

wouldn't it be frightening if ghosts of insects existed and haunted us? can you imagine a gigantic ghost spider following you around, making bad things happen to you?

Bugs, no. It was pretty gross when one of my dogs nearly killed an opossum in our backyard. I say nearly, because it wasn't dead but it was severely injured, and it was pissed. My husband had to finish it off with a shovel. Hideous. Worst noise I ever heard in my life.

edit: let me clarify, the opossum didn't make a noise... it was just the sound of the shovel hitting its skull.

I have a problem with some bugs. I freak out a little. It's not a Ohmigwad, [insert boy's name here] there's, like, a bug! Could you kill it for me? problem, but more like a DIE DIE DIE!!! *hit way too many times with a shoe* problem.

I hate bugs, but I try to avoid killing them if I can. I used to get that same sad feeling as you CP when I was younger. But I can't even remember the last bug I've snuffed out. I'd probably still feel bad.

I trapped a rat in a trap, and it was only caught by its front leg. I picked it up to throw it out, and the shrieks it made startled me so much, I dropped it. I picked it up, and the only thing drowning out its screams were mine.

I threw it out in the field, only to see it writhing in pain I couldn't fathom. I scooped it up with a shovel, put it behind a car tire and ran over it.

Oh, the joys of living in the country.

Yeah. Except earwigs. For some reason I have no sympathy for them.

Good god, that's a lot of trouble to go through.

Speaking of possums, these kids that lived nextdoor to me right after college caught one in their trashcan. It fell in whilst prospecting. I look over one day to see them throwing a stinkbomb in there with it and shutting the lid. Then, when it didn't die, they decided to fill the can with water, again with the lid on. But they chickened out at the end, and just knocked the can over. So about 50 gallons of water and one pissed-off, yellow, stinky possum came spilling out.

The thing turned around and hissed all the way down the backyard, just taking its time.

Are earwigs the same as silverfish? If so, then I'm in the same boat. Silverfish eat books and other paper, and I have lots of books. I also wouldn't object to killing a cockroach, but I never have them.

Yeah, but it would have taken days to die. I couldn't sleep knowing it was out there like that.

I never kill spiders. I set them free outdoors. It's actually considered bad karma if you kill spiders.
