Weather Causes 86-Car Pileup
25 Injuries Reported

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- There were whiteout conditions Sunday when dozens of vehicles piled up on a two-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 31 in western Michigan, closing the road for several hours.

Police said 25 people suffered minor injuries in the wreck involving 86 cars and trucks. Some drivers who had slowed down because of heavy snow were rear-ended by vehicles unable to stop.

One woman needed extra help to save her baby.

"Her car was on fire and she couldn't get out," said witness Laurie Devries. "So she just passed the baby through the window. We kind of got him up to the hill and helped some other people out of their car."

Police don't expect to issue any tickets because of the bad weather conditions.

i'll remember this when people complain that East Coast wussies don't know how to drive in the snow.

Something to that extent (of not more) happened in West. MD a couple of years back. Due to the fog though. Really screws up a road system when stuff like that happens.

What about people driving too fast for the conditions, I.E. > 0 mph?

Can I hand out tickets for stupidity?

I'd claim "GAS LEAK!", but one of the sparks would have set off an explosion. Perhaps it's a carbon monoxide cloud.

my roommate said her van was skidding all over the road when she had to drive downtown on sunday.

speaking of accidents, i defy anyone to find a better car accident scene in a movie than the one at the beginning of final destination 2.

It's like a scene right out of Blues Brothers.

The interceptor blasting through the motor home trailer at the beginning of Mad Max.
