I have that (the laserdisc). When I finally get around to digitizing my laserdiscs, I'll keep you in mind.

Holy shit, yes!

Anyone have Weatherbox? I found three of the discs from it in a used CD store once...and yes, of course I got 'em...

I looked for that for YEARS and never saw it. I got close to bidding on one on Ebay, but then came to my senses - $150 for a boxset is ridiculous, especially when most of the music is still available in other forms. However, the Russel Mills designed box and artwork almost made me jump. Now that the remasters have come out, everything that was in the box is now available, and with better sound anyway!

Hey, me too! I haven't really kept up with what Torn's been doing lately. I was a bit let down by the Splattercell thing he did and hoped he'd do another just-plain solo album again. I know he's busy with production and movie scores, but please give us another Tripping Over God and/or What Means Solid, Traveller?! (If you've never read it, there's a fascinating interview with him here where he talks about his brain tumor and going deaf in one ear - amazing that he's such an accomplished sound mixer with only one ear!)

There are also two versions of this. The original was mixed by Fripp and is much harsher and edgier, and came in a very cool box slip-case with a big booklet of artwork from an installation the two of them did.

Like the 'the other Dave' this guy has a phase or two he's gone through in his 'Brilliant Career'-

These are essential :

Japan-
Gentleman Take Polaroids
Tin Drum

-his Roxy Music -Bryan Ferry phase

Solo-
Secrets of The Beehive
Brilliant Trees

-his Ryuichi Sakamoto phase

Funny, I definitely put Brilliant Trees in the "inessential, but nice for real fans to have" category. I definitely would not recommend this to new fans. The only other vocal album of his that I wouldn't say is totally essential is Dead Bees on a Cake, just because it's pretty uneven - but where it works it's sublime.

Yeah, I saw the boxset when it first came out, but couldn't justify it, since I had most of it on vinyl. Now I'm regretting...

I think Torn has been producing sample CD's, mostly. Okay, after looking at the Splattercell website, it looks like he's been doing a lot of production work and studio musician work and touring and stuff here and there.

My co-worker loaned me the original version of Damage, with the booklet, and the Gone to Earth I borrowed was from 1986. Don't know if it was remastered or not.

Anybody got some Japan they could yousendit to me? I've got stuff on cassette but not on cd... would be most appreciated. Primarily interested in "Quiet Life" and "Gentlemen Prefer Polaroids."

I have a smackload of Sylvian on mixes and hard drive, but am missing quite a few releases proper. Mean to fix that.

My wife thinks he has an amazing voice but is too sedate. I don't think so. Though this is a lady who listens to whale sounds cd's, so she's one to talk.

I like his stuff with Fennesz a lot. "Transit" is absolutely amazing. I like the fact he's actually at the top of the experimental crowd no matter what era he's in.

Well, if it's one disk, then it's the early CD version; if it's two disks, it's the more current CD version.

I'll see what I can do about Japan, but it's currently buried somewhere, so I hope there isn't any rush...I think I only have Oil on Canvas, though (remastered).

NP - Secrets of the Beehive

Holy shit! This CD is making me cry.

I had a tape copy in High school that I wore the shit out of, but haven't listened to it in a long long time.

I finally bought a CD copy yesterday.

Whoa. It's blowing me away.

I notified Senor Six yesterday of my feelings for Mr. Sylvian... I figured he should know who his sole competitor is.

Count me as another person who hasn't heard much David Sylvian but would like to. I really liked that Linoleum song with Tweaker and put Serotonin by Nine Horses on one of my recent mixes. Also, there's this early 80's Japan song I have somewhere that is so Duran Duran-ish, it's amazing. I can't remember the name of it right now but it must've been one of their minor hits. Of course, I liked that too.

Maybe someone wouldn't mind making me a mix cd of some of his essential work?

Pretty please?
