outfoxed was super not-good. spongebob got boring. lemony snickets didn't make the cut. haven't seen life aquatic, the aviator, the woodsman (kevin bacon!), or, i dunno, 18 million other movies this year.

I have to agree.

The "memos" were a particularly questionable touch.

My Top 10...so far...
I made a change to mine due to the fact that I watched Bad Education this weekend.

I was actually a bit disappointed in it as I thought it'd be a lot better. As usual, I loved Gael Garcia Bernal but the overall film was okay.

01. Before Sunset
02. The Motorcycle Diaries
03. A Very Long Engagement
04. Shaun Of The Dead
05. Tarnation

06. The Dreamers
07. Napoleon Dynamite
08. We Don't Live Here Anymore
09. Sideways
10. Bad Education

The top 6 were all extraordinary movies, yet the bottom 4 were decent. A lot of bad movies this year.

I still intend to watch The Sea Inside, The Keys To The House, Open My Heart, and Vera Drake.

OPA,

I have heard of The Dreamers it is like uber-erotic right (possibly non-simulated sex scenes). IMDB is saying this movie came out in 2k3.

Also saw Before Sunset last night. It instantly shot to the top of my liszt.

Also did anyone see Weekend Update on SNL where they called this the year of the independent film. They then proceed to call Eternal Sunshine indie. Que?

I am going to continue to update this but I think in January I am going to try and do something more organized.

I had mentioned a Shmoo like poll in an other thread. Do you wanna organize something like that?

As far as The Dreamers, you're description sounds about right. Very erotic but not in an obvious way.

Before Sunset blew me the fuck away. Best movie of the year IMO.

Before Susnet=Moving

And I do not say that often.

Definitely interested in doing a schmoo type poll for flix. Maybe not as high tech and it can obviously not start until after the first of the year due to the late release of several quality films. Go to see if I can get it stickied. May be have the poll end one week before the Oscars. Possibly have several categories.

Nah, I haven't seen the first one and thought it was great.

No level of commitment. Great dialogue. Brilliantly acted. Just really well written and thought provoking.

Re:Sideways...Is this actually good, or is it "good" like Election and About Scmidt were "good"? That is to say steaming piles of crap that you all bought into the hype on? Not that I'm accusing anyone of that, or even accusing Alexander Payne of sucking outright....just wondering.

Let's just say it didn't blow me away. It was decent, even great at times, but overall a little too blah for me.

I knew it!

I will wait for video..and by wait for video, I mean never see this.

Let me get this straight---Election is a "steaming pile of crap", but Garden State is "decent and enjoyable"? Election is a far superior movie to Garden State. GS is not bad for a first effort, but the ending really brought it down, and I agree with your "quirkiness for quirkiness sake" assessment. I get the feeling that Baraff had an actual good ending, but it scored poorly with test audiences, and he remade the schlocky ending we have to sit through.

Do yourself a favor and go see Sideways---it's definitely not blah.

I thought that Election failed at its attempt at satire, and I just wasn't very amused by it.

Garden State, on the other hand, I could really identify with the characters, and was somehow able to (OK, I actually had a mental conversation with myself during the movie, to sit back and watch, and not nitpick and destroy, like I do with most movies) get past the quirkiness for quirkiness' sake aspects of it.

I'm gonna see Sideways, mainly because I like that dude that used to play Lowell and figure that any movie about wine, writing and acting like an ass (hmm.....sound like anyone I know?) has to have some potential.

I just get wary when movies by people I don't really like get lauded. It might end up being the celluloid equivalent of Xiu Xiu.

When I was at SXSW, my boy Austin had just acquired this, so everywhere we went, he was listening to it...I'm sorry if this is offensive, but that album is just too gay for me.
