The U.S. beat Japan this past weekend in a friendly 3-2 and is now ranked sixth by FIFA. I know they have a tough draw in the World Cup, but it looks like they might do well if they keep playing at this level and continue improving.

the fifa rankings are nice, but you shouldnt put much weight on their rankings. you are now seeing the direct results of the 1994 world cup and the mls. i want an mls team in canada so freakin bad. it would do so much for our national team.

Yeah everytime I see those rankings I kinda scoff, but then remember the US team isn't that bad. I would actually like to believe its Netherlands time to be a threat to be honest.

Yeah, FIFA rankings means nothing - USA gets the benefit of being a big fish in a small pond in terms of extra points for winning World Cup qualifiers and federation cups (not trying to slieght the US team)

On more serious matters though, this is good news if Japan takes this kind of form into the world cup because we have to play them first game
