It's pretty crappy, but then again it's shadowed by their back catalog. Always tough to beat that, especially when the chorus is pretty awful, not even catchy.

Oh my God, it's every bit as terrible as I imagined. The smooth-Jazz lead guitar tone, the clip-art power chord progression, the completely horrible mix. . .

Granted the two songs say 'remix' and 'demo' respectively, so maybe some slack should be cut. Or not.

Both songs are not very good at all, more so if one considers all the time, money and effort that apprarently went into them. I think this is what happens when you surround yourself with people who reinforce the notion that you're some kind of genius instead of others who aren't afraid to tell you that you're full of shit.

What did you people expect?

GnR has ALWAYS had bad songwriting.

I disagree.
"Sweet Child O' Mine", overplayed as it is, is still a damn good pop/love song.
"Mr. Brownstone" just fucking rocks.

They only started having bad songwriting once their songwriter (Izzy) left the band. All of Appetite... is excellent hard rock, IMO. Actually, one of the best hard rock records I can think of. Def. the best hard rock record of the 80's.

You're not a fan of this music anyway so what would you expect? If the lyrics were in the same league as Elvis Costello or Dylan you'd still rag on them.

You're talking to a guy who picked up the guitar under the inspiration of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.

Hard rock/metal is in my blood.
And if you feel I'm shitting in your mouth, hey! It's good shit!

Big fucking if.

If you mean i'm not a fan of bullshit, then you're right, and you don't know everything about what I do or don't like, so sit on it potsie.

And i'm not just talking about the lyrics, the music, although well executed, is just tired cliches.

slash is the only bright spot in those albums.

Yeah, because that weird littler spidery Dorian-mode lick at the beginning of "Sweet Child O' Mine" is very cliche.
(Yeah, I know the song is just D,C,G... but so are a lot of other great songs. Including several Beatles songs, if I'm not mistaken!)

Which is a classical guitar exercise that he lifted.

So... it's fresh in this context.

Actually, "Blues" is a live track, audience recording, that's been matrixed with another recording (possibly a demo?) The drums give it away, but you can also just barely make out some crowd noise at the end (just before the synth fades back in, then gets cut off.)

Either way, both of these songs are pretty dire. Maybe the official versions will strengthen them . . . but I doubt it.

I agree. I also said Slash was the only bright spot.

And it's still a guitar cliche.

Bullshit? Whatever, dude, but when you actually read enough of posts you do get a fairly good idea of what people like and dislike. Based on comments you've made in the past regarding AC/DC and their ilk, I surmised that you generally don't like this kind of music, so your opinion is going to be negative even if the songwriting quality increased an order of magnitude. You think it's all derivative and unoriginal. It shouldn't be fucking jazz.

For the type of music it is, most would agree that Appetite is quality stuff. Same goes for Back in Black.
