can we have a
one person band song contest?

you have two weeks
to enter a song
that you haven't started writing yet

record it/create it with your computer
or whatevers
and post it on this board

main rule is that it only involves yourself
not other "band members"
but you could use
software to play the instruments if you want

then we all vote
and you can't vote for your own song

winner gets an ego boost

or we could revise this whole idea

I'm not sure I'm able to write my own stuff just yet. Hell, I've only been playing the guitar for two freaking months.

Idea of us all writing songs = Great.

Idea of us choosing a topic ahead of time = the surest way to write a horrible song.

This is perfectly timed since The Shambolic Trumpets are currently in the studio recording their 'Coconut Fantasy' EP.

Actually, I'm sure experienced people would be more against it than inexperienced people. It's the way most people start out writing songs, but you soon learn it's not really the best approach (most of the time).

(its finally snowing today holy shit)

A songwriting club I knew a guy in (sorta) back in atlanta used to have this deal where everyone wrote down a few words every week on a scrap of paper, then they all went into a hat. Then everyone grabbed one out, and came back a week later with the new song, which had to have those words in it somewhere. Some were normal, some were goofy. The really good writers managed to make it sound planned.

Just a thought.

Oh, and with recording gear, I think I'd do this, maybe. I have less excuse not to than others, except for not having recording shit. Well, busty does, but that means going over there and having an audience.
