Bi-cycle! Bi-cycle!

To work on a regular basis, if I get this new apartment next month (it's about 3 miles away, with 2 massive but doable hills). However, a less-bandied about question for the bicycle riders here:

I usually wear a long sleeved collared shirt to work. However, after biking a couple miles and over a couple hills, I have a feeling that my underarms will, well, become a bit darker, if you catch my drift...

Does anyone know an easy solution to this problem? There's a shower/bigger bathroom at work for freshining up and the like (I'm not gonna stink up the office all day), but I can't think of a good way to carry my shirts with me on the ride - not all of them are the wrinkle-free models...

(also, on a related topic, I blew out my back tube/tire a few weeks ago - anyone know how much it'd bee to get that fixed? I have a friend I might be able to coax into fixing it if I get all of the materials/beer for him)...

Can you get a garment bag and anchor that on the back of a backpack?

Once a week drive to work to drop a bounty of new shirts. Then ride yo' bike the other days.

All you need is a hook on the back of a door to do the weekly stash. It's how I do it. In a pinch, fold it like when you buy 'em, stick in plastic grocery bag and put it in your backpack, it'll get there fine.

We have a shower and I have a little locker-closety thing in my office - it's a sweet deal (esp with parking $70/month).

If you get them pressed and folded they'll fit nicely in a back pack. My SF launderer charged just a few cents more, and on aoccasion I walked to work carrying that pro-pressed shirt in a brief folder bag, no probs. I had to get them shirts folded 'cuz of no hanging space in my closet.

But robo's got it right on the thrifty side.

If you roll your shirts, they don't wrinkle. Just like when I'm on tour. And you can fit your pants easier that way too. Just start at the cuffs and roll them tight... With the shirt, fold it like the stores do, and start rolling from the bottom fold with the collar facing out.

Also, if that's too much hassle, just wear the shirt unbuttoned over a jersey, like a Gore N2S, or button it but don't tuck it in, duck in the bathroom, do the PR Shower with paper towels, anti-perspirant, roll up the jersey, put the shirt back on, and you're in business. A two minute ordeal.

Yep, tube replacement is pretty cheap. If you buy the bulk tubes and do it yourself, tubes are like $3 each or so. But you have to have some gentle tools to remove the tire without fucking your rims up.

True dat, and the tools are cheap too. Your local bike shop should be able to show you how to change out a tube. It's good to know anyway, esp. if you get a flat while out riding.
