Yeah, it can be done cheap I guess. It's that "convert to mp3" part where things diverge from shoestrings and chewing gum. Oh and I hate the sound of my own recorded voice.

My response to song contests would have to be similar to Nick Cave's.

every song needs to be on one consistent topic.

I agree with this - not in a confining way, just some common thread amongst them. Else it's just people pulling out old material or whatever.

no, i think it should be confining. Like everyone write a song about Cheney quail hunting or something. i think it'd be more entertaining if there were multiple people writing on one specific topic.

while i agree completely
with nick cave in his situation

you are kidding right?

i mean
...
ours is not a significant enough "contest"
to take it that seriously

and it in no way would
this obner thread song contest destroy
some sort of sacred passionate connection
with you and whatever song you'd contribute

and songs that you would write after that

especially since
you'd be writing it specifically for the purpose of a thread

Nope, entirely serious. I don't care how trivial the song, I refuse to even contemplate comparing it to others'.

Especially that part about my relationship with my muse being tentative, and her abandoning me if I were to take a cheap shot like that. Man, I never thought of it that way, but...jYeah...I probably take my music too seriously.

Someone should have used that Nick Cave thing in the Beard Competition thread.

so what if it wasn't a contest
just a thing where people contribute songs
and talk about the process
listen to each others "two week" songs

no voting or anything

then you'd submit a song?

competition is good and bad.
the stones and beatles and beach boys were all in competition with each other and i think that worked out well creatively.
