A gorgeous new tune from Josh Rouse, taken from his forthcoming album "Subtitulo".

“Subtitulo” is heavily influenced by Josh’s move to Spain. After spending many years in central Tennessee (which came to a close with his most recent album and farewell letter to the city that helped hone his craft, Nashville), Josh packed up his bags, bought a plane ticket and immersed himself into the lifestyle and customs of the Spanish culture. This influence shines throughout the upbeat (and largely romantic) tenor within each song.

Average isn't quite the word that would come to mind.

"Quiet Charm" is what comes to mind. "Understated" also comes to mind.

He's one of the few artists that never disappoints me. In fact he's the only one whose albums are on constant rotation at home, no matter which one. I always seem to be in the mood for his music.

I liked the song. I'm curious to hear the rest of the album. Isn't coming out in a couple weeks?

well, I've now heard three songs from it.

So sorry but not going to agree with you.

I think it's just going to end up being more understated then his norm. Which isn't a bad thing.

Fair enough. I guess the alt country/soft rock thing is not really MY thing.

But i find the whole new Spanish influence hilarious. See how it sells i guess.

I don't find it too hilarious seeing that he has been living in Spain for about a year and a half now with his lady love.

pete, i can easily see how spending some time in Spain can influence an artist. i don't really see how it's a selling point, but more as just pointing out where he's been recently, and how it may have influenced his album.

the album is much better than i expected to be honest. i'm not a huge fan of his, but there are some exceptional tunes on this release.

I liked 1972 and Nashville okay, but I'm not sure how much I care about his sudden interest in flamenco. I mean, both those albums simply took his usual mellowness and adorned it with some sort of thematic production trick. So it's Spanish music this time instead of country soul. The trouble for me is the dude's lyrics always suck inestimable gallons of hamster piss, so I'd prefer if he concentrated more on songwriting than finding a new gimmick each time out.

Well no i didn't, i really had to get some sleep.

But no more brilliant than defending an album after hearing 3 songs. I would guess this guy could crap in a bag and you'd call it a diamond though.

D, i think it is a big selling point. I have only heard a few tracks off previous albums and when i read this blurb on the download site i really wanted to check it out. I can certainly see how somebody can be influenced by the Spanish culture if he's living over there and it could of been very interesting. But after 2 spins of this mediocre album i have to pass this off as a cute gimmick.

so how do you determine when an artist is being genuine? were The Beatles using gimmicks when George brought in some middle eastern influence? was it just so they'd have that selling point?

i honestly don't think it's a gimmick in this case, but i'm not overly familiar with Mr. Rouse.
