I had no idea they were releasing a new album. The title makes it sound like some sort of best-of anthology.

Has anyone heard it? Should I be excited?

Their 90's releases were a lot better than anyone expected them to be.
So I'd say, yeah. There is reason to be excited.

I'm loving it mate. Good chance for my Top 10 status. Some great poppy tracks.

Yeah. Modern was fucking awesome, and All Set didn't suck.

BTW, the name of the upcoming release is Flat-Pack Philosophy, 3/6/2006, looks to be new, not an anthology. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I saw them when they were touring for All Set and they were goddamn brilliant. For a couple of old fuckers they rocked like hell.

The problem with the 90's and 00's albums (I haven't heard this one) is not that they aren't surprisingly good on their own merits but that they predictably don't measure up in comparison to the old stuff. I enjoyed each of those albums for 3-6 months after release but I never return to them instead grabbing an older album.

None of you guys should even be thinking about buying a new buzzcocks album if you don't already own "Another Music in A Different Kitchen" and "A Different Kind of Tension" and I'm guessing most of you don't. I'm always surprised how most folks seem to praise "Singles Going Steady" to the high heavens but don't seek out any of the other original albums.

I have Product (which contains all of Another Music in a Different Kitchen, Love Bites, Singles Going Steady, A Different Tension).

BTW, I mostly agree with this, but not completely. I do agree that the newer stuff isn't as good as the older stuff, but the new stuff still rocks, and I do find myself returning to it. But yeah, if you don't have the first albums, then definitely get those first.

I mean, that's like saying no-one should listen to In Through the Out Door or Presence when albums like II and I exist. Sometimes, I'm just in the mood for ten minutes of "Carouselambra" or "Tea for One".

That would be a start but a better thing to say would be:

no-one should listen to In Through the Out Door or Presence or II and I when albums like II and I exist. ;)

<------------ Not a Led Zep fan

And wasn't saying no one should listen to newer stuff but just for christ's sake don't make it a priority to buy if you don't already have all of the older albums.

Thanks. It's pretty good. I'll definitely check it out if we get it at the station.

Don't forget "Love Bites". "Love Is Lies" is, IMO, the best song they ever wrote.

I definitely like the recent Buzzcocks stuff, but what's missing from all of them is that it's all Singles Going Steady-type punk pop, with none of those oddly unpunk (Krautrocky?) album tracks like "A Different Kind of Tension" or "Moving Away from the Pulsebeat."

I like their 90s stuff...what I've head of it anyway. I'll be curious to hear a new one just 'cause they always put out something at least decent.

I do tend to just listen to Singles Going Steady over and over when I want a Buzzcocks fix. Probably, for me anyway, its just because that one was the one that really broke them through to at least some degree in the US. So, its the only one that you ever heard out and about. The other stuff may have charted in the UK, but stateside, Singles Going Steady was about the only one anybody really ever heard outside a few of the anglo-obsessed combing the import bins.

I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for some old copies of theri other stuff lying around... I think Singles is the only one I've still got of them.

Anyone familiar with either of these? These:

...or...

Complete Singles Anthology

Both seem to be a superset of Singles Going Steady. Would either of these be preferable to Singles Going Steady?
