Got yet another job rejection letter today, and this one was for a job that I was absolutely perfect for, they gave me a screening call, said they were interested, I followed up, and then today I get a letter rejecting me, I didn't even get an interview.

I've been trying so fucking hard at this bullshit, soul sucking job search and I find nothing. My last job was great but that was taken away thanks to a vindictive record promoter.

I don't know what else to do, I'm fucking homeless and completely burnt out...my emotional range only alternates between rage and sadness these days.

Help!

Not having a job and barely surviving is one of the worst feelings in the world. I've gone through it. I wish you the best Dave. I know, it's tough but hang in there.

Just keep plugging away. You're right, there's nothing worse than being unemployed (was unemployed for a year, myself), but really, your mood will turn around 180 degrees once you get a job. Good luck!

thinks positive 'vibes' in the general Northeasterly direction

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear this Dave.... I'll keep my ears peeled if there's anything floating around at EMI or Capitol.

Well, if you're like me, something will magically appear out of the ether, likely starting at a level well beneath your abilities and talent, where you'll be stuck for a while 'cause you don't *really* want a career job yet, but dammit if you ain't talented at that lifestyle.

But yeah, what OPA said.

I don't understand how anyone could possible employ me ever again.

I'm going to be the worlds first homeless person dressed in robes and a mortar board hat.

KPH speaks the word. Also, and you're not going to want to hear this, but lay off the puff for a bit 'til you find something. It'll happen soon and probably when you least expect it. Keep plugging & good luck.

I saw a friend go through the whole "losing a job then be unemployed for a pro-longed period of time" bullshit. He was working for a Security co. - got laid off - had to sell his car to pay his bills - there was no bus route and he couldn't drive to job interviews unless someone close by lent him their car - got a settlement from his parents' estate after getting evicted - bought a shitty car and a new apartment - still couldn't get find a job - got evicted again - stayed on my couch for 8 months - still couldn't find a job - met a girl on the Internet - she ended up coming to Houston and getting a place - he moved in with her - 7 months later he finally gets a job at Blockbuster Video. He was unemployed for a little over 2 years. Through this whole period, I was spotting him cash left and right. Sometimes large amounts.

Aww, baby, you'll find something soon. I know it. You've got great determination and loads of knowledge to share. It just takes the right employer to see what you have to offer. When that happens...BAM!

If it consoles you, I went through the same situation a few years ago. I got so bored of being unemployed that I applied for a job at Best Buy. I figured ANYTHING would be something vs staying at home all day. The managers were hesitant about hiring me -- "Are you SURE you want to work for Best Buy? With your skills, you should be running the store and not a sales rep." I looked at 'em, straight in the eye -- "Look, I'm unemployed right now. If you'd like me to run the store, I will. But, at this point in time, I just need A job." It paid more than minimum wage, but it helped my self-esteem. A couple of months later, I found a full-time job.

Its odd that they would call you but then not give you an interview. If I were you I would get one of my friends to call my references pretending to be a potential employer and see what happens. Someone may be giving you a negative reference.

Try to keep positive and good luck.

I can't believe he couldn't have gotten a job there on the spot the first day he was laid off.

A friend of mine who's been unemployed for a year now recently got a job at Disneyland.

Seems all my friends seem to be having trouble with getting jobs these days...keep your head up, man. :o

I may be wrong, seeing as I've never been unemployed, but I don't think you can collect unemployment benefits if you take the Blockbuster job.

Just keep plugging away with the applications and calls and whatnot. I applied for well over 600 jobs before I got one the last time I was unemployed.

You sound like me except I'm 20 so I'm still living at home and don't have to worry about rent, house, food, etc.

But it's still just so aggravating when these nobodies with half your intellect are getting your jobs and you have no idea why.

The record store I want to work at has a sign saying "Now Hiring: full-time, students need not apply." I'm not in school. I don't have any clubs, organisations, hobbies. I've worked in two record stores before. Ergo, I am perfect for the job. Still no call.

I don't understand it.

I'm not sure exactly what his job title was at the Security Co. but it was something supervisory-related. So, I guess even if you lose your supervisor position at a Security Co., you could still realistically think you are worth more than a job at Blockbuster. He is very intelligent and has strong interpersonal skills. He went for other professional customer service jobs and had a few promising leads, but nothing ultimately came through. Granted, if I was someone in his position and knew I had no safety net, maybe I would have been more proactive...I don't know. I lived 40 minutes away from him at the time so I couldn't monitor his job searching efforts. He actually did apply at Blockbuster in 2004 once he got the shitty car, but did not get a response.
