Yeah, watch out, it's easy to go from "respected biologist" to "pitied alcoholic" within the span of merely a couple of months.

Must be time for me to have a beer and a cigarette.

Hopefully, but I have some inkling that I am somewhat interesting in this condition, as well. I need some time off from being a workafuckingholic.

I've found that the two can co-mingle together rather well if it's on a slow descent.

Well, having never been respected, I wouldn't know...

Right now my colleagues just handle me with kid gloves, watching me show up hungover for lab meetings and managing to pick apart journal articles I haven't actually read. I've seen enough of academia to know that the two (excellence and drunkenness) are commingled often enough, particularly at conferences. Tonight, though, it's alcohol, cigarettes, rock and roll, and an attempt to be charismatic with the ladies.

I'm actually well thought of in some circles as my publications and citation index suggests. Probably not this circle...

Conferences are a great place to get hammered and talk shop. Free booze everywhere so you're practically expect to get knee-walking drunk. When I was in Dublin for my society conference, I was drinking with these Australians over a couple of nights. By the end of the week, I had a post-doc offer.

Gonna put on some Black Keys now. <--music reference

Back to subject, this board is very lost. I really feel the music and general talk should be seperated, but always get shot down for this opinion. This board is just the hip board jr. and what is the point of that?
Look around we have lost quite a few music posters in the last few months, I have only posted for maybe four days this month. I know I'm more hated than loved but i always talk about the music and don't feel like doing that here much anymore.

We lost fastnbulbous ages ago, and some of the music-related posters of whom you write are prolly the very same as for whom Charli waxes nostalgic (i.e. the Boston crew that didn't make the switch to Obner eighteen months ago, et. al.), so I really don't see where you're coming from. Who else have we lost?... Fess up.

Anyway, Spade's polling threads have done well, and been music-related (a twofer!), and with the rest -- some of the usual suspects in bringing us reviews and recommendations for live-shows or new artists have been detained in more pressing matters, aural fixation with the matter of her mother's death and arrangements for funeral/burial and ft with his new job and no from-work boarding. To that very last, I think that Dunwoody Dude and Rick Derris have vacated the board for much the same reason, not for lack of music content.

Y' know? Y' know?
