Nothing quite like the Daytona 500. Spring is surely closing in fast now. Woohoo

Out of complete ignorance of racing:

1. I suspect that the first 480 laps are meaningless, and you might as well just tune in for the last 20.
2. Second only to the crashes, the pitstops are the most exciting part. Why isn't that the sport instead? Synchronised Auto Repair Sprints. The college teams would be great: DeVry, ITT, University of Phoenix...

1. Daytona is a 2.5 mile track, so only 200 laps are required. But I'll let that go.
2. They do actually have competitions throughout the year for the pit crews and one is proclaimed the winner at the end of the year.

The best part of NASCAR is the ability to trashtalk during on air interviews. Post race Matt Kenseth was trashing Tony, Tony was trashing Matt+Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin busted into Kenseth's on air rant, and said something inaudible but didn't seem nice, Jeremy Mayfield seemed pissed off at many people including his teammate, and Eliot Sadler just seemed happy to be there. Ha. Has a certain wrestling air about it, but seriously great watching.

Oh, and did they overdo the confetti or what?

I wonder if I should mention to Yail that two of our clients are NASCAR-related. Shit, they even gave me my very own NASCAR replica model car one year as a gift. I wonder how much I could get for it on ebay?

You'd have to barter for Bud cans and pouches of Red Man.

Probly a lot. Those people that are really into the memorabilia are SICK. A buddy of mine worked for Coke a couple years ago at college football games and Nascar races and sold the shirts and stuff that he got for free for big bucks.

The whole merch scene at races is almost disgusting though I think its hilarious. Not really my scene though.

strangely enough Bilz, the hardcore Nascar fans are probably the most wealthy sports fans I've ever scene. Its weird. Like dudes from Michigan in 450,000 dollar RV's obsessed with buying used racing tires and shit.

Oh, I know. I'm just pokin' fun. I'm actually in the "enjoy Nascar" camp. As someone who drives in traffic everyday, I have the utmost appreciation for the nads it takes to drive 180 per two inches off the next guy's bumper.

There was some expose on the news a few years ago about some dude in Indaina that blew his entire lottery jackpot (in the millions) converting his house to a Dale shrine. Guy even converted his Monte Carlo into a #3 replica--not just the decals and paint--the interior, everything you can do short of the drive train and tires.
