WOW! I thought I might be the only one around here who thinks up sick shit like this.

Wow! The old "Official Clarence Thomas Pick-Up-Move" An underrated favorite. Especially in this special time around Jesus' birthday and all.

Not to call you out, dude, but this is bunk. We all come here to ARGUE (I mean discuss) about music. If it wasn't for me shitting in latter day Radiohead, I'd've never gotten that mix from you, which still rocks, btw. We don't have much musically in common, but I feel like I learn stuff from just about everybody.

You can always just choose to ignore it, but I think the notion of having an ignored list is silly.

Well, it's not quite so cut and dried. Arguments are great. I don't get pissed off about people making grand, sweeping statements about things I really like being the worst shit ever, etc. On your worst day, I don't think you could sink to Radcliffe's level of condescension and antagonism. Most people don't really get a kick out of that sort of thing, and I'm prone to believe that it's over-compensation for something.

If Radcliffe wants to turn everything into a pissing contest, fine. I may or may not actually add him to an ignore list if I had one, but I think we should have the option of doing so if we want. Other message boards have them, and they are hardly used. If you're worried about them being abused or people just ignoring anyone who disagrees with them, you shouldn't be. I think that sort of thing would play itself out (it'd get really boring) pretty quickly.

I'd really be just as happy if the boarder in question would just ignore my posts rather than pulling things out of context, arguing semantics, and always trying to reduce me to a made-up stereotype. It's distracting, and it isn't actually music discussion. If I wanted to deal with people like him, I'd become a regular at Exploding Plastic or Hipinion.

I think if people like myself and Radcliffe could ignore each other (or better yet, Radcliffe and DHR), the entire board would benefit. Granted, we don't need killfiling to do it, but it would certainly make it easier.

Fair enough, Drinky.
Ol Rad's just a curmudgeon. A curmudgeon with soe pretty good shit to say and some really interesting takes on music if you can get past the bluster.

I mean, I shit all over some of the stuff he likes (The Stooges, Patti Smith, Wire) and everything's cool with us.

I guess my point is, it's the give and take that I like. That, and you only get pigeonholed if you let yrself. Like me, everyone knows I'm a Stones-loving alcoholic and drug addict. And I'm ok with that.

True, true, true

The best The Streets suck story I have is the following:

A friend and I were at a local cafe and were chatting away with the cute chick working there at the time. She was having the Streets playing, so I of course was half in misery, but was high enough to not care too much. Anyways, my friend was hitting on the cute chick working there and so forth and hit her with the "who is this playing? I like them", and she was like "oooh, it's the Streets, I'll go get the case" and when she passed him he gave me a look and shook his head that clearly showed his actual opinion on the music. Shortly after, he got her number and we all went and smoked up in the alley behind the cafe.

Lets hear your The Streets suck story.

oh well, i knew i was pretty out of step with the 2004 indie canon when everyone suddenly flipped out about AF. i'm still pretty skeptical about the enthusiasm:positive reviews ratio thing (much as folks had a similar take on The Meadowlands), but...cool.

i guess i should finally check out ACollective eh?

hello from dial-up TX.

I have nothing akin to this. I just can't stand the beats or the flows (or lack thereof) Then again, that's how I feel about a lot of rap these days.

These ones I like:

Quote:

48 Loretta Lynn- Van Lear Rose [Interscope]
46 Iron & Wine- Our Endless Numbered Days [Sub Pop]
45 The Concretes- The Concretes [Astralwerks]
43 Scissor Sisters- Scissor Sisters [Polydor]
41 Les Savy Fav- Inches [Frenchkiss]
40 The Walkmen- Bows and Arrows [Recordcollection]
29 A.C. Newman- The Slow Wonder [Matador]
14 Erlend Øye- DJ-Kicks [!K7]
08 The Go! Team- Thunder Lightning Strike [Memphis Industries]
07 Devendra Banhart- Rejoicing in the Hands [Young God]
02 Animal Collective- Sung Tongs [Fat Cat]

Some of them will even be on my top 20. That's not really a lot considering there were 50 on that list to begin with. But to be fair, I haven't even heard these ones:

Quote:
50 Xiu Xiu- Fabulous Muscles [5RC]
49 Max Richter- The Blue Notebooks [FatCat]
44 Camera Obscura- Underachievers Please Try Harder [Merge]
42 DJ Rupture- Special Gunpowder [Tigerbeat6]
39 Cee-Lo- Cee-Lo Green Is a Soul Machine [Arista]
37 Jóhann Jóhannsson- Virðulegu forsetar [Touch]
36 Excepter- KA [Fusetron]
31 De La Soul- The Grind Date [Sanctuary Union]
25 VA- DFA Compilation #2 [DFA]
22 The Foreign Exchange- Connected [BBE]
18 Kanye West- The College Dropout [Rocafella]
17 Sufjan Stevens- Seven Swans [Asthmatic Kitty]
16 Dizzee Rascal- Showtime [XL]
13 Dungen- Ta Det Lugnt [Subliminal]
12 M.I.A. / Diplo- Piracy Funds Terrorism, Vol. 1 [Hollertronix]
09 Ghostface- The Pretty Toney Album [Def Jam]
05 Brian Wilson- Smile [Nonesuch]

I think the Arcade Fire is pretty okay but holy shit the fact that it gets unanimous props from everyfuckingcritic out there perches it on a reallllly high pedestal. A pedestal that is very very tall. Tall and thin. And tippy too. One that's really easy to push over. And topple.

ps Sung Tongs is wicked cool. :)

^ Which is why I like him. I don't take him as rap. He's never made my "best of" lists...but I really enjoy both albums. BARELY missed this year. As some 18-year old with no direction in life who has always wanted to be British (except when I wanted to be black), listening to Mike Skinner is fascinating.

Y'know, there's been a lot of shit stated in this thread that I should react to. A lot of personal shit. And the hypocrisy of getting called a condescending ass by other condescending asses is fairly high on the list, though not the worst example. But this is a message board, and I refuse to get drawn into any more dinky drama.

So let's just recap:

First, I predicted that in the near future it'll be embarassing to Pitchfork that they've named the Arcade Fire album as best of the year. There were no if-you-like-it-you-suck sentiments included in the post - and I've already said elsewhere that I like the album, but I just don't see that it should be #1.

That post was subsequently followed by...

[img][200:200]http://www.members.shaw.ca/winnphoto/images/BabyCry3.jpg[/img]

And that brings us full circle back to this point. My recommendation is that the thin-skinned few of you who are so stung by someone else's opinion should lighten up. Or learn to read. Or, failing all that, maybe you should just quietly and contritely go fuck yourselves.

Well me either, I guess. You have to have the last word, huh? I'll play it your way then.

You brought on the condescension in this thread. People bit back with condescension of their own, but, at least in my case, only after being personally targeted (and it wasn't the first time, even within this thread). Oh, so we said some personal shit about you? You poor thing! Whoever thought things would reach that point? What the fuck did you expect?

And for the last fucking time:
I don't give a shit about your opinions or tastes. The fact that you don't like Pitchfork's #1 choice does not even faze me. (I hated their #1s for the past 2 years - though in retrospect they're not so bad.) It's how you present yourself, single people out, and attack them. So we attack you in turn. I'll mix it up as long as you want to. Fuck killfiling, I could enjoy this.

So are you really done now?

edit: faze

i just think that the word "faze" is tragically underutilized. not that it's homonym isn't a perfectly good word; i think that "phase" is pretty rad.

on an unrelated note, i may have to stab my eyes out if you and radcliffe don't stop soon. y'all need to lick and make up, so we can go on to discussing more important things, like cat vomit.

So, really then, it doesn't seem like much of a condescending point to have made in the first place, does it?
