Alright fuckos,
Not only am I pondering the daring feat of going to a show Friday solo, but I'm thinking of going to a show solo for a band I'm not even sure I like.

So who's seen Animal Collective live? What can I expect?
I'm tempted because I get the vibe it could be a big ridiculous spectacle that will make me take notice of the music more than the albums have managed to do. Plus, the show's @ the Temple Club in Lansing, which is a great place to see a show.

I'm 80% sure I'm going, but still, gimme some input on this.

Thanks.

Hit/miss. There's this odd enthusiasm-meets-hostility thing in the personalities that struck me as being odd. I dunno, maybe they were genuinely pissed off to be playing the Midway.

Don't miss. I'm hoping to be seeing them tomorrow, pending the hookup. There's no predicting the material they will play, as you're likely not to have ever heard it before.

Thought so, too, and I'm a pretty big fan.

Definitely worth checking out, though, for the good parts. The one thing that struck me live more than anything else was Avey Tare's completely odd, unique sense of timing. I mean, no one else sounds like this.

The main problem with their show was the build-ups/transitions between actual songs, but when things really got going, they were pretty much always great. And, as Ish mentioned, they're likely to play mostly new, unrecorded material if past performances are any indication.

Yeah, they'll probably be playing 60-70% new material. On the last tour they played about 50-60% of Feels, one or two Sung Tongs songs and a few new ones. I'd expect about 5 - 7 new tunes, 4 - 5 Feels and a single Sung Tongs track.

If you dig them already, you'll probably like the show a lot. I'm looking forward to the March show here in Asheville. I still have to get off my ass and get tickets, but I know I'll be there - either with or without my wife.

I CAN'T DECIDE WHETHER TO SEEM THEM OR STEREOLAB LIVE. It's on the same night. I'm afraid Stereolab will be like listening to their CDs at a louder volume.

Can't speak for Animal Collective, other than to say I would love to see them live.

Stereolab put on a good live show when I saw them open for Sonic Youth. I think their music is pretty layered, so to see them play was a treat to see it all come together. Also, the way they played kind of put me in a trance, which was nice and really had me dancing.

I'd rather be disemboweled in the woods with a stick than attend an Animal Collective concert.

So you've seen them?

So that's a "nay", correct?

I mean, getting disemboweled in the woods with a stick could be your thing. Not like I know what you're into. And I'm not making judgements either way.

If he was like the football players in 'Heathers' it could be his thing.

They'll play "maybe one weeper from Feels". Rest is unheard material. Therefore, go.
