Wow, this is, hands down, the most incredibly lame thing I've seen on a message board - ever. Congratulations.

Just a question related to this rap shit you kids are all excited about: if these people are so good at "rhymin'" how come they rely on the same tired, self-centered subject matter (guns, hos, cars, their prowess at things sexual-, rhymin'-, and money-related, etc.)? Is there intelligent rap that I'm not aware of, stuff that steers clear of this ridiculously childish bullshit?

Are you serious? There's a lot of really thoughtful stuff out there. It's some of the "horrible" indie rap that so many "true hip hop fans" hate. That, and, like, old Public Enemy.

I would kinda agree with you that hip hop as a genre is pretty disappointing lyrically, especially when a rapper is touted as being "intelligent". More often than than not, they're still talking about the same shit. Like, I don't really get what the big deal about Jay-Z is. Why does anyone give a shit about any of the stuff he's talking about?

well the whole thing was tongue in cheek.
i was inspired by an hour listening to NWA.
i mean, if we really wanted to quote chomsky or tolstoy
it could be done.
and i don't consider acting childish in a situation such as this a bad thing.
it's a message board. not the hood, or a boardroom or some other place that you take way too seriously.
hey, instead of blowing a shitload of hot air for your own self-satisfaction,
how bout you contribute something? seems fair. put out or shut up.
or lighten up baby.
question: are you really loved?

Hip-hop seems to be in the same place that hair-metal was in the late 80s. From what I see, it's all about image. Sure, there's probably intelligent stuff out there, just like there was in the 80s with rock, but all you see is what I said - guns, hos, money, etc.

But yeah, I'm serious - I have almost no knowledge of hip-hop whatsoever - it's just not my thing - and I just want to know that there really is something intelligent out there. You know - at the bottom of Pandora's box of horrible things was one wonderful thing, hope.

Did I shit or fart? "Shitload of hot air" is a contradiction.

Now THAT was satisfying.

Ironic considering I asked a question requesting some intelligent examples and instead of answering, you choose this as a response.

Yes, yes I am.

For "Intelligent" rap I would recomend
Sage Francis
Talib Kweli
Nas (yes he raps about guns and other "gangsta" stuff, but he does so poetically and intelligently)
Deltron 3030

kudos for the semantical analysis.
truly innovative.

here's two suggestions that i enjoy:
atmosphere
and
heiruspecs

i, like yourself, don't really explore the whole genre,
but at least i realize that i'm full of shit.
i can't say i check up on the rap/hip-hop section of this board
so if someone comes across some stuff,
talk about it.

You're trying to say that I, fully admitting that I know next to nothing about the genre, am full of shit? Let me just lay this out for you so it makes sense: when you accuse someone of being "full of shit," it's due to baseless boasting that you know to be untrue. Since I readily admit that I know nothing about it, I cannot be boasting about anything related to this topic.
