He's coming to our town, which is something different for us. Usually we get the Van Halen cover bands.

Tix are about $40-60, I think.

Would it be worth it? I've never seen him live, and haven't heard much he's done lately, but I liked stuff he did with The Band.

Thanks.

I've seen him a few times. I realize that it is a very simplistic thing to say, but sometimes he is very good and sometimes.....well.

Keep in mind that he sings in a totally different voice and that every "classic" song will be in a completely different arrangement.

I fucking love his band though. They kick ass.

Go. Even if he is off, it is still Bobby and you need to catch a legend in person at least once.

Was that the Newport Folk Festival show? I heard a lot of people in the audience couldn't stand that one...

i can't even imagine what he even sounds like now - which is a shame

also when i say barely listenable - i mean voice-wise

I saw him in 2001, and he was awesome. He wore a white suit with a white hat and white patten leather shoes. He sounded great and played a decently long set with no opening act.
When he played here two years ago with Willie Nelson at the Baseball stadium, I heard he was awful and that the crowd nearly caused a riot until Willie Nelson came out to play with him.

He is a freaking legend.
He is still relevant.

I've heard that his shows run hot and cold, but for the chance that you might see this legend on a good night... I would say that it is well worth it.

I think I saw him around this time too. I've seen him twice and really enjoyed it both times but I'm a big fan so I can probably put up with his voice and scary ghost face more easily than most.

I've seen him a few times and his concert quality varies so wildly, there's really no good answer. He could be fantastic or just stand there mumbling for a while before calling it an early night. $40-$60 bucks would keep me away for a guy who may end up sucking, but if you're more financially able, it may be worth a gamble. He is a legend and all that.

I've never seen him live, but everyone I've ever talked to about Dylan has said the same thing a lot of people here have said: some nights he's amazing and some nights he sucks.

Anyway, if you go the worst that could happen is it could be a bad show. There are worse ways to waste 50 bucks. And in 25 years, you could still impress the next generation of music geeks by saying you saw Dylan live.

Take the gamble that you'll see an amazing night. You won't miss the $40-60 years from now but you might damn well wish you'd seen him while you had a chance.

A few years I passed up ops to see the Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Stevie Wonder in small venues based on $100+ ticket prices. I've regretted it ever since and have seen every legend I could since.

Haven't regretted any of the shows. Go Go Go.

I saw him only once back in '92 when he played Thunder Bay. I had heard he was hit or miss even then, but as everybody here has said, the guy's a legend and northern ON didn't exactly get a whole lot of big name acts through. I'm very glad I did, he played pretty much everything I would have wanted to hear, plus a smattering of stuff from Oh Mercy if I recall. He closed with a really long and intense 'Maggie's Farm' which was extremely memorable.

yeah, the two best of the four (i kinda just did that math) Bobby shows I've seen were at the Music Midtown festival in Atlanta.

The first one must have been Spring '96 (or post Garcia) because he did "Alabama Getaway" and a very Dylan version of "Friend of the Devil"... He introduced it as a tribute to Jerry and it was pretty great.

That other memorable Dylan at M.M. gig was probably more indicative of what you will see: Dude fucks up arrangements, keys and inflections really well, but still pulled off some great shee.

Dunno, I loved it. Fuck, me and Captain Redneck loved it (we sent the ladies off to the 99X stage that night.

I have him on such a pedestal that I don't know if I would want to risk it.

I have seen him upwards of 20 times. When he is "bad", he is still a force of our base human nature. When he is "good" even middle america gets it.

I think if you have to ask.... stay home.
