I should probably wait until something breaks for the better here at the salt mine. The current Group A draft is exceedingly dark and brutal.

I believe so. If shiv wants into "B" that's cool with me. I don't know if he wants in or just to selectively trade.

I'm in. How's it work? (Or just direct me to what page in this thread explains it).

"A" was for people that didn't want to do the mass exchange with everyone. "B" is the mass exchange with everyone.

PM your address to Dana & I and one of us will update the mailing list and PM it to you and everyone else who is participating in "B". The guideline is to get the mixes out to everyone by March 1 but most of us will likely need a few more weeks. I'm encouraging everyone to review the mixes.
That's about it.

yeah mine wouldn't be done/sent by 3/1...more likely 4/1.

because i don't have a printer at home and i don't have time to create labels at work, my discs won't have track listings. there are three mixes, i don't know who's getting what and i'll post the track listings in the mix section of obner.

if you don't like the mix i make, please be kind. i take mix-making very seriously and i'm fragile. i'm already worried sick that naked's going to rip me a new one. but we share the same birthday so maybe he/she will be kind.

danke.

I don't have a printer either. So I'll either write it out, use my parents' printer, or the printer at work.

I'm pretty open musically...from candyass pop to meandering instrumental music...it's hard to play something for me that's way outside the realm of what I would normally listen to. I will say I don't listen to rap metal or Creed rock, but then again no one else here seems to really. I don't think I've ever posted a review of a mix. But if I do, I doubt it would be scathing.

By the way, I'll try and mail yours out by March 1st (assuming your address is in the list of addresses recently sent out). It's probably going to be the same as the mix I make for the B exchange.

I think I'm putting as much work into my artwork as I am in selecting songs.

I'm in the process of burning copies, of which about 20 have been burned so far. I'll probably finish burning the rest today, then all that remains is to print the cover art/track listing, buy padded envelopes, and ship these mothers out. If all goes well, they should all be en route to all of you participants by the end of next week.

ok, it's confession time for me...

I'm really torn about this exchange. I want to do something cool, but at the same time, I had an idea, ran with it, and now I'm second-guessing myself. After all the posts about putting familiar songs on a mix cd, it's got me thinking. Thematically, I will tell you that my mix cd is a re-creation of a mix TAPE I made back in the mid-80s, so I'm going to assume that there are going to be songs/bands that people are pretty familiar with. I have tweaked the tracklist a bit. Ideally, I was looking at this as a way to present to all of you what type of stuff I grew up on, how it's influenced me today, and just put together something really cool you could toss in your car player on a road trip. So I just wanted to forewarn people... I'm hoping y'all will still like it anyway, but I wanted to be clear that I'm not tossing in some German bootleg that I had to sell a kidney to acquire.

My mix is going to be a combination of indie rock and international music.

I'm kinda sorry I made that thread. You should just make whatever mix you want and not worry about it.

Second-guessing myself is kinda my specialty.

just got back from the post office. first batch is on its way. i'll finish up the rest on monday.

so you know, i went the cheap route and did not send a jewel case, just the cd and photocopied insert. i bought paperboard "cd mailers" that i haven't tried before, so i hope everything arrives in one piece.

You're thinking too much. I'm making my mix as if I'm making it only for myself. If you guys like it GREAT! if you don't Oh well. I'm guessing at least one person will really dig it and at least one person won't like it at all. Most will be somewhere in the middle.

And you'd be surprised what stuff a lot of even music snobs don't know from the 80's. I'm looking forward to hearing it.

That's exactly what I'm doing this time, as well. I've done themed mixes before, as well as those designed for a specific individual, but this one's a Fractured joint. Every single track on this mix gets my full endorsement.

So we're sending a mix out to everyone on the list that's in the B group, correct?

The group that was PMed to you with the addresses, not the group on the first page of this thread. That list is missing a few people.

oh, and we did agree that artwork is optional, right? i don't want anyone being disappointed that the tracklisting is black print on white paper. i've never made art for a mix.
