alright this dude rules and if you haven't heard him yet - i suggest you do so.

for those of you that have, here is 2 demos for his upcoming cd on touch & go

From Leo:
Hey, so we're going on tour next week, and new stuff isn't as far along as I was dreaming it would be, but we have a few new ones that we'll be playing, and I think that I got some good recordings of rough versions of two of them (especially ignore the guitar solos -- they'll get better) from yesterday's practice, so I thought I'd share them wif yiz.

Thanks for posting.
Ted Leo is someone that I should love. I mean, I can appreciate him and the fact that he is talented as hell. But, for some reason he just doesn't resonate with me -- on a deeper level, like my favorite bands.

Odd.

But thanks for these tracks, Timis.
It's good to hear more.

:(

There's an excerpt in the new Guided by Voices book that talks about a gig they played with opener Ted Leo who went way over his allotted set-time pissing off Pollard and the rest of the GbV crew. According to the book a brouhaha ensued ending with Ted Leo punching a presumably drunk Robert Pollard in the face knocking him out. As for Ted he puts on a pretty great rock show and I like both Tyranny & Hearts quite a bit.

As for the GbV book, that and much more can be found here :

I somehow knew (word for word) that you were going to post that...

I really, really like Ted Leo...However, if I could give him one thing for a "Happy New Year/New Album 2006", it would be the gift of brevity...

Weller never wanked-out for over a minute on the breakdown of your favorite Jam Songs... neither did Elvis Costello...

Maybe Ted should've looked Pollard in the face and learned that sometimes songs can be better/catchier if they're shorter

(and, for the record, I still claim Chris as my favorite Leo brother)...

yeah and maybe bob could have learned from leo as well

that putting out albums with 50% crap and 50% rock goodness is not the way to go either

I'd take that, too...Bob learns editing (albumwise), Ted learns editing (songwise), everyone wins!

Proof enough of this is Human Amusements is probably one of the best pop records put out in my lifetime, Greatest Hits record or not...

I like both Leo and GBV, but can definitely picture a scenario in which the punching out of a drunken Pollard was called for. I imagine it was actually pretty damn funny, though not as hilarious as that clip of Danzig getting punched out.

Thanks for these. I have a deep (chaste - somehow he's the man you want to just hug) love for the Ted. And Pollard annoys me, making my love yet stronger.

Yes, he is indeed, THE MAN. He gave another great performance last Friday when me and jagged caught him at The Granada here in Dallas, which moved me to make him the subject of my latest single-disc "best of" CD in the "GLARING OMISSIONS" series.

Here's a link to the tracklisting:

He's still #1 on my list of best live shows I've seen (which I'll admit is very small, but still...)

He's definitely up there among the best I've ever seen. He really brings non-stop energy to the stage. His drummer and bassist are bad-ass, too. All three (Ted included) are some skinny mofos. I probably outweigh all three of them combined, just by myself.

you can't be serious. he stops to talk after every song! there's no momentum to his shows. he rocks, but the ratio of music:talk is way too low.

I think you're both right. He's always high-energy when playing, but he does talk way too much in between songs. TL can never say no to a tangent.

He only talked between maybe 3-4 songs when we saw him last Friday, and two of those were pretty quick and witty retorts to dumb-ass shouts from the crowd (like some dude who kept yelling "Freebird.").

maybe he's finally heard the calls of so many people who've been yelling "less talk more rock" at his shows for years.

Did anyone buy Living with the Living and get the bonus EP? If not, I can upload it for anyone who's interested.

Are you talking about the "Mo Living" thing?

If so, I didn't get it and would much appreciate a listen.

This is slowly becoming one of my favorite albums from this year.
