Since my Chris Farlowe thread sunk like a stone so well, I figured I'd toss out these two guys and see if anyone has any recommendations or insight. All I have by either are a couple songs apiece on a Creole Kings of New Orleans comp.

All I can say is I have Blues and then some and it doesn't wow me. AMG says it isn't a highlight, though.

I got a Mayfield 'Poet Of The Blues' from Columbia club & a Lloyd Price from BMG. Columbia is no more and BMG has nothing by either now. I don't know what cuts you got but think Price is easier summed up by his hits and Mayfield might be the bigger discovery to get a whole CD of. I think Price is pretty representative N.O. R&B while Mayfield is a more atypical blues.

Funny. I just ate some Pecan Praline King Cake. I think Lloyd Price's is easily summed up by his comp. I have my dad's old vinyl copy. Don't know available it is. I'd also like to recommend Ernie K-Doe.

I only know a few songs by each of these, but Price's version of "Stagger Lee" is killer.
