The drummer from The Presidents of the USA (Jason Finn) was a grade school friend.

I've shot hoops with Ryne Sandberg.

That's about it.

gary chico and i hung out together until we hit our teens. we used to jump out of his back porch window into his pool. he was kind of a baby.

my mom and the unibomber are second cousins.

i used to babysit anna (we called her annie) erickson who married one of the menendez brothers in prison. she was my little sister's best friend in grade school.

i've told these stories so many times here i'm starting to feel like todd.

My sister knows the rock stars for the whole family. Still she can't have meals with a Mekon for me.

I met and briefly hung out with Rico Bell at the Velvet Lounge in DC. For the life of me, I can't remember who I was there to see, but I know he wasn't playing, he was just hanging out.

Oh yeah, I've met Bob Pindyck, Ernie Berndt, Ray Ball, and Ted Snyder. Hopefully Gary Becker and Kevin Murphy will join the list next year.

maybe so, but i would trade my entire list for stars, bss & emily. whoa.

i met rufus & martha wainwright because my ex used to book their aunt sloan. we told rufus how to get to the nearest dance club and watched martha take two bottle of tequila from the dressing room to the tour bus. teddy thompson was there, too, and he was kind of a spoiled brat.

i also forgot that i went to high school with anna chlumsky from the movie, "my girl".

My favorite (personal) story about Martha & Rufus is me standing outside school after a boring poetry class asking Martha what she was up that weekend and her telling me she was going to be playing a little show with her brother. This was long before Rufus was known outside of Montreal.

"Oh, you guys play music"

"Yes, well I kind of accompany my brother---he's a little bit special."

I knew nothing about her brother at the time, but looking back on it, I just love how she called him "special" with that kind of sarcastic yet endearing tone.

i went to high school with an inline skater that won a bunch of x-games medals in the mid-90s. he even had a full-size vert ramp in his backyard. he'd go to, like, belgium and miami for weekend competitions before finally just dropping out because his trips kept him out of school so often.

as said in the origin thread, one of my friends is a co-host for a chicago tv show. it's weird to overhear strangers talking about him in public. he's been at it for awhile, but i still think he looks nervous on tv.

i've met a lot of famous people once or twice, but i wouldn't consider any of them to be friends or even acquaintances.

oh, and jimmy fallon hates me. and i don't like him either, but almost everyone with common sense dislikes him for the same reasons that i do.

he did his stand-up at my college once. and i was in the front while he was bombing. there were scattered giggles around the 1/3-full auditorium, but he couldn't get two jokes in a row to go over well. so he starts to make fun of the town because it's so small. (oh, like we haven't heard the jokes from every other comedian? oh, and the name of town is also the name of a state, so you don't know where you are? so funny!) and then he asks me some questions about what i do and then makes fun of me because i'm straight-edge and it's apparently unheard of to not drink or do mountains of coke when you go to school in a small town. so i start to heckle him and i then say something obscene about passing time in the small town by "slipping it in" any available girl. it threw him off and he left the stage to a smattering of applause.

so, afterward, because i was on the booking committee, i go to apologize because i do kinda feel bad and we got into an argument. i think he called me a dick and i said he had no talent. i don't remember the argument too well, but my friends who were there told the story about us talking to each other a hundred times over that weekend.

Met many peeps over the years but can't say they're buddies of mine. Though Ed Harcourt remembered me at our second meeting from our first meeing.

Probably cause I was such a dumbass.

Only person famous I know and have contact with(though not so regular as it used to be ) is Kevin Whelan from the Wrens. We used to stay in email contact a lot and he almost came in for my wedding but alas.

I learned early on that booking a comedian for a college show is a questionable thing to do.
When my oldest sister went to Wayne State in Nebraska, the booked Bobcat Goldwaithe and he was nearly arrested for shoplifting rolaids at a Sioux City, IA grocery store. The last time I saw him on Comedy Central, the story was now part of his act. That night at his performance, a bunch of D-II football were heckling him and he started making fun of how crappy their team was, which was true and the fact they couldn't be great if they were sucking up the D-II level.

During my first year of grad school they booked Tom Green to do a pep rally for Nebraska, and he got into the Lil' Red blowup costume and began humping one of the chancellors while also essentially sexually harassing a cheerleader and Basketball coach Barry Collier's son. The campus police escorted him from the stage and off campus.

As for athletes, I know NFL players Josh Brown of the Seahawks, Russ Hochstein and Matt Chatham of the Patriots, Jamel White of the Ravens and Kyle Larson of the Bengals.
I sat by Josh Brown and two other non-notable Nebraska football players in a history class
Larson's dad works with my girlfriend's mom at Kearney High in Kearney, NE. He was also Brown's roommate in college.
Hochstein is one of my best friend's childhood best friend's from Hartington, NE. I have hung out with him up there a few times fishing. We all met Ted Nugent one time at a convenience store around that area when the Nuge was bow hunting for Elk or Deer.

i met dave chappelle when i was in high school. he was doing a stand-up gig at a nearby college, but not at their usual comedy venue and we couldn't find it. so we stopped to ask for directions. the one guy was like, "that's a classroom. why are you going there on a saturday?" and we said that dave chappelle was doing a gig there. and his friend's like, "dave chappelle? he's in the car behind you." so we all turn around and the car peels out and goes down the hill.

we park and go up to the doors and there's a small crowd waiting to get in. i ask someone what's up and he says they can't let people in until dave chappelle gets there, so we tell him that he's lost and in a silver lexus. so my friends and i take a walk and see dave chappelle and a girl walking a dog about five minutes later. and he asked if we knew where the venue was, so we walked there with him. he was pretty cool.

My current boss' husband is the right hand man (Comm Director or some such) to our regional Catholic Arch Bishop. He taught in the Vatican for many years and personally knew, and met with the former Pop John Paul II. That puts me 3 steps from the Pope?

I don't "know" a goddamn person that is famous.
My dad does transportation on films shot in Chicago, so he knows lots of movie stars. I've met one or two, but wouldn't say that I "know" them.

I've hung out with Nash Kato (Urge Overkill) a couple of times, but wouldn't say that I know him either.

Okay, so people I've MET... ONCE:
Richard Lloyd (Television/Matthew Sweet)
Jonathan Richman
Jeff Mangum
Scott Spillane
Daniel Stern (actor: Breaking Away, Diner, Home Alone, etc...)
Blacke Onasis (Urge Overkill)
Jim Ellison (Material Issue)

And I am related to... the Saperstein family (founder of the Harlem Globetrotters)

EDIT: And I ran into Michael Jordan once... at the video store. In 1986 or 87. (I grew up in the same town where he lives.)

I don't know any musicians nor have I seen any...unless you count James Iha.

But celebrities in general, I've seen plenty. I used to work at the Frederic Fekkai Salon and met people like Martha Stewart, Heather Locklear, the girls from Sex & The City, among others...but my true claim to fame is the time Betty Buckley (the mother from Eight Is Enough) called me a "fucking receptionist" when I wouldn't let her speak with Frederic.

I'm not famous. Yet.

But I play in a band that is probably past it's prime, www.liquidsoul.com, and we get to do some cool hits. Before I was in the band, they opened for sting at Madison Square Garden and Central Park, played Clinton's second inauguration and Martha's Vineyard for private parties for the clinton's, dennis rodman's birthday, etc...

while i've been in the band, we played south by southwest with DJ Logic and John Popper, Logic and Vernon Reid played on our album that's coming out in May, we opened up for B.B. King last week, colloborated with Wayne Kramer in Germany, etc...

but nobody knows who I am.

And that's just fine.

I just want them to know me enough to want to hire me.
