Last night I went to see this film, the directorial debut of craggy-faced Tommy Lee Jones, who also stars in the film. It is a modern western, and also has musicians Dwight Yoakum and LEVON FUCKING HELMS as costars in the film. Watch it watch it watch it!

It is beautiful and bleak, and depicts perfectly the Texas / Mexico border area that I love the most. The Chihuahuan desert, the bleakness, the interplay of class, race, and politics. Awesome all around.

They had a write up on the DP in one of my mags. I want to see this, but will have to wait for DVD. Apparently, many people are surprised that it wasn't nominated for the Oscars.
