So I'm home visiting the folks for christmas. Lots of free time and they have cable so i plop down in front of the tv. I was flipping through and stopped on this dumb ass show where a dude in a red suit (not santa) was fighting some guy in tight 80's jeans, tucked in shirt and a wicked feathered hairdo. It was a bad fight scene that got worse when this woman in a red suit came in threatening with her laser gun. Then she got shot by a woman in a bad oufit with a real gun. It took about 15 minutes of me watching this really really bad show before I found it was 'V'.

I think when it came out in the 80's i was a bit too young to watch it. It's probably a good thing because holy fuck was it terrible.

The 'best' scene was the last one where the badly dressed human woman was holding a small green alien that was apparently her baby. They were making a bath for it out of motor oil and rock salt. The sound effects for the alien were bad but the puppet was even worse. You should have seen it playing in the bath.

There's no point to this topic other than I'm really fucking bored at my folks' house.

I think that's why I didn't watch it, either. I was too scared. I was a scared kid though. One time, I had a nightmare about Pigs In Space and couldn't watch the Muppet Show for a while.

this makes me sad though, as i always wanted to revisit V and see what the fuss was about.

i did revist Perfect Strangers the other day, and the island of Mepos is not nearly as funny as i remember it, nor is larry appleton.

hey chase name me one 80s tv show that gets replayed now that is as good as you remember it. I bet there are none. I was pretty excited when they started replaying Dukes of Hazzard and Ateam but it gets real old after about 8 minutes.

Oh and about V. I heard the original miniseries was waaaaaaay better than the series. I don't want to see it though. I'd just be disapointed.

Plus, we have Perfect Strangers to thank for Urkel. Miller/Boyett spun off the black co-worker at the Chronicle and her cop husband into a family drama, the drama being Family Matters, and Jaleel White played the whacky neighbor.

And, unlike Wilson on Home Improvement, Urk sucked ass, 'cause he was always there.

V- Miniseries: pretty good. Have the whole thing on a VHS box set. I'll have to drag it out and watch it again now.

V- TV series: terrrible. laughable even.

Knight Rider holds up amazingly well after all these years. I mean, the car can TALK for Christ's sake!

It's really good.

"Senior Day" at Truman High School in 1985. All the seniors could come to school in costume. My buddy and I came as the "visitors" from V.

Red outfits
Sunglasses
Rubber rodents we could pretend to eat.

No wonder I was always getting beat up in HS.

The V miniseries scared the ever loving shit out of me when i was a kid.

Miami Vice holds because of two things:

1. Michael Mann
2. Unlike pussy shows like Knight Rider and the A-Team where nobody actually ever gets hurt/killed EVERYBODY dies and the show NEVER EVER has a happy ending.

Make fun of the outfits or Don Johnson or whatever but I put that show up against just about anything.

My mom went through a phase where she thought Miami VIce was the most violent show on the planet and tried to ban my younger brother and I from watching any tv at all because of it.

My dad told her she really needed to lighten up.

So that was the end of that argument.

Knight Rider is bad. Very cheesy and, even though it's supposed to be sci-fi-esque (in that the car can do anything) it still is ridiculously not well done. for instance....

one time Hasselhoff was keeping in contact with Kit through his watch. his watch had a little video screen, so he could see what Kit sees (cause Kit has some kind of video cam/surveillance thingy). but then, they show Hasselhoff looking at his video watch and he sees the Kit car being attacked/approached by the baddies. how on earth was Kit, whose has a surveillance camera, able to shoot video OF HIMSELF, from ten feet away?

so stupid.

But, like totally META! It was the show within a show.

And people died in Knight Rider - in fact, one of the most tragic episodes was when his bride was shot to death shortly after the ceremony. Tragic!

The V Miniseries is fairly entertaining for something with 80s effects, and written for TV.

Miami Vice is tops, as are Quantum Leap (except when he leaps into women...that's just an annoying gimmick) and MAGNUM P.I., especially for Rick, TC and Icepick

"V" had Robert Englund as a good-guy lizard.

South Pacific is right. Miniseries good. TV series very bad.

oh man, a topic on V. awesome. i was also super scared when watching it as a kid, but couldn't believe how crap-tastic it really was when i watched it again last year. I love Marc Singer's over-acting.

Yeah, that's right. He was on the episode I saw last night. He was the one preparing the motor oil and rock salt bath for the baby lizard. I recognized him but couldn't place the actor. His role was kinda comic relief.

So whats the deal, were they lizards that took human form when they invaded??

Yes, but his acting in Beastmaster is Oscar worthy.

Yeah, but if I said why they invaded it'd give away the *suprising* and *shocking* ending for anyone who hain't seen this small screen *masterwork.*
