So... I'm sure I've told the story before about how I got into the whole Indie thing:

I was a majot metalhead at 13, which led me to Classic Rock in High School. That was all I would listen to at that time: Classic Rock.

Well, you see, I had a subscription to Guitar Player Magazine, geek that I was. Well, in the July, 1987 issue there was an interview/profile on this weirdo-freak that just sounded so cool, I had to check him out. He name-dropped ZZ Top, Brian May, and Black Sabbath, which is what initially perked up my ears. But then, he just seemed so... odd that I knew I had to hear some of his music.

The weirdo in question: Curt Kirkwood of Meat Puppets.

Anyway, I was trying to track down an old issue, but the back issue dept. at G.P. was sold out of July, 1987.

So, what happened?
Yesterday, I received a package from the magazine.
The managing editor had tracked down a copy, and PHOTOCOPIED the whole damn article for me, and sent it in the mail!!!

I think I need to start up a new subscription.

Sample quote:
There are no cons in playing in a band with my brother.... Sometimes we fasten our belts together in the back and fly around playing in a whirling dervish.

Thank you Guitar Player!!!

np: Meat Puppets II

Getting ready to go to lunch and read this Puppy (pun intended) right now.
If any of y'all are interested in seeing this, drop me a PM.
It's a damn good read... especially for guitar players. (But not only for guitar players.)

I'm going to see Curt Kirkwood play a solo gig later this month. Actually, I was CONSIDERING going prior to this but now I am. I'd like to read it.

That is rare indeed. The guy will probably be fired.

I just missed him in Chicago... at Schuba's.
DAMN!

I've seen the Pups twice --- once on the Mirage tour (1988) and once on the Monsters tour (1989). They were great. I hope I get a chance to see Curt solo again.
