OK, I have been in this intenral battle for a while.

Looking for a cheap yet efficient way to maintain contact with fans of my label and our artists.

Our MySpace page has 2700 friends....Who knows how many really care bout us, and were just looking to pad their own lists?

Our regular mailing list has severla hundred people on it...But we are about to have a growth spurt and put us intoa category where our mailing list provider is gonna charge me $10 bux a month to maintain, which while not so expensive it will break me, is a cost I'd rather avoid....Once I surpass 2500 names on my mailing list, it's $25 a month to maintain.

We also just started our own Yahoo group. So far, this seems like a decent option? I cnanot find out what the general rules are though? Is there a restrictiion to how many people can join or what not?

Anyone who does anything on their own that uses a mailing list care to share thoughts?

All of these options suck, IMO. Messageboards are the only thing I'll pay attention to because of the ease of use. Yahoo's groups completely blows donkeys, even after the improvements they made. It's just clunky, plain and simple. And MySpace just seems like a highschool hangout to me, along with also being clunky and annoying. Not to mention blocked at work, which I'd guess is the case in many bigger companies.

Yeah, but message boards require people visit them on their own...I need to get word to people via their email....

what dont ya like bout Yahoo Groups?.. pLain and Simple is wehat Im after for right now.. Just looking to share news....

and Myspace seems the easiest, since ican post pictures and music....but getting people to visit the page on a whim is not easy.

I'd go with Yahoo groups. I think I'm on Calla's Yahoo group and I get messages from them about shows once in awhile. I'm sure you could send them out more frequently though.

Myspace is okay but unless you post bulletins, I never know when a band is coming around b/c I rarely check band pages.

I agree with Myspace.. It can be great...

but if a person has 500 or more people on his friends list, a BULLITEN can get lost in the shuffle in a matter fo minutes....i know i dont look in the back log of bullitens.... i only look at the current 5 that are up there....

Yahoo groups, while simple, seems to be easy.. and the price is right...

Ugh...

my new website is up, and now I really need to make a decision on all this...

we have www.fanblast.com set up now... first 100 subscribers will be free, then its $10 bux a month up to a 1000, and $25 bux a month up to 10,000 names....

of course, it seems like small monthly business costs, but unitl we sell records on a wider scale, any expense is an expense i could do with out...

do youthink ts possible to set it up, where people submit an email address, and it simply goes into a word document or something? i can sort it alphabetically, and just maintain it like that. probably more of a hassle and work on my part, but it'd be free.
