I'm listening to it right now; I've heard it twice through now and it's not bad at all. I agree with Sketchie's comments completely. Although, I think I may be one of the few fans of Daybreaker or at least I didn't think it was a serious letdown. 'Concrete Sky' is one of my favourites.

I actually might make this a Beth Orton day and spin all of her albums for comparison purposes.

Daybreaker was (and probably still is) a top 10 of '02 for me. "Paris Train", "Mount Washington", and "Thinking About Tomorrow" are up there with her best. "Concrete Sky" is good, but I think the acoustic live performance on Other Side... is far superior.

it's getting fantastic reviews by critics everywhere i look.

i'm still very underwhelmed by it, but i'm glad you enjoy it sketch.

did anyone get the limited edition version? it lists "northern sky" as one of the bonus songs, and i'm wondering if it's a cover of the nick drake tune.

Today, Trailer Park stands out as my favourite after today's spins, there are so many great songs on that album. I also preferred Daybreaker over Central Reservation. Both are fantastic, but I found myself wanting to replay the former album after I hearing it. I'm definitely warming up to Comfort of Strangers more than I thought I would, probably because some songs would sound out of place on Daybreaker, 'Conceived' is one.

'Tis. Not familiar with the original, so I can't give a fair judgment. We can sort a PM/YSI if you fancy...

Bateman: IIRC, "Conceived" is the first single.

billy, i will guarantee that you will find nothing redeeming about this one.

Ok so what do I get from your guarantee? Because you sir are wrong. I'm with sketch. In fact since I'm not that huge a trip hop fan, I may like this more relative to the other albums than sketch does. I don't get what you people take as boring. I don't need to be bludgeoned over the head by my music all the time. I can appreciate a georgeous and fragile voice set against a delicate piano and not be the least bit bored by it.

ugh, but in my opinion her normally gorgeous voice sounds awful on this one.

in my opinion of course.

first 2006 album i've deleted...and another reason why downloading before buying is a great idea.

also, my favorite material from her on her previous albums are not necessarily her "trip-hop"-ish stuff. i'm more a fan of her, piano or acoustic, the double bass that was on a lot of central reservation and the last one. on this new one the songs are just boring.
