Helmet has signed to Warcon Enterprises. Founder Page Hamilton commented on Warcon's integrated approach to marketing and merchandise: “I really like what Warcon stands for. In today’s music climate, it’s more intriguing to be involved in every aspect of the project. The structure of this deal makes me more of a partner rather than the traditionally signed artist / record deal approach, which for me personally has little value anymore.”

The band has already written several tracks for their upcoming album, to be released on the Kevin Lyman-operated label, with production being handled by Hamilton and Warton Tiers, who the band has worked with before on their first two releases Strap It On and Meantime. The album is going to be recorded all-analog via the same tape machine that recorded those first two releases and is the first since 2004's Size Matters

--Also--
For those that dont know, Kevin Lyman is the founder of Warped Tour

Good news, assuming this results in stuff that is better than Size Matters (although I'm not sure how it can't be).

Size Matters was a very good album. If it would've been released in 1992 people would be falling over themselves to tell you how good it is.

I'm not sure how partnering up with the founder of the Warped Tour is going to work to Helmet's advantage though. Maybe they're going to try and recapture that 15-17 year old market base maybe?

People grow up and tastes change. I used to like Helmet's Meantime and Betty too, but I couldn't tell you the last time I listened to either of them. I think my husband has your problem-- he liked them, and thinks he should still like them.

This is me as well. Although it's threads like this that make me want to haul both of those albums out. So I'm off to look through some boxes.

Where's Sketch? Speaking of old bands that my husband used to like... the receptionist just sent out a officewide email offering up free tix to see (drum roll, please): KORN!

Sorry...

I was expecting something completely different out of this thread... something non-music related...

I still listen to Meantime, plus a few songs from Aftertaste, Betty, and the Born Annoying ep. I guess that's all the Helmet I need, ya know?

I like the first incarnation of the band but I downloaded that last album, listened to one song, then deleted it. I don't have high hopes for this.

I remember liking a couple of songs from Meantime. Betty had me by a thread. I didn't pay much attention after that. I picked up the best of comp when it came out. That's really all I need, even though it is missing some of the better tracks from Meantime like "You Borrowed."

Betty was one of the first CDs I ever bought and I never liked it too much. I haven't listened to it since I was about 10 though so I have no idea what I'd think of it now. Is Meantime better?

Betty is like a glossier version of Meantime.

edit: but yeah, Meantime is better.

I loooooove Helmet, but thought Size Matters was just flat-out fucking DULL. Just a weak, weak album...especially after a several year layoff.

Hamilton has also done production work, including producing "Distort Yourself" by Institute, the new band started by Gavin Rossdale of Bush.

Any love for Aftertaste? I wasn't blown away by it at the time, but I've really grown to like it a lot. I like that it went back to a more stripped-down, leaner style after Betty. Not a masterpiece by any means, but pretty fun to crank when in the right mood.

Amen, I was lucky enough to see them live in Cleveland.
