Just stumbled across this site...kind of a fun read. Basically a lyrics site where people can respond with their interpretations of what the songs are trying to say.

Just thought I'd throw it out there if anyone was interested.

There's another one out there I like more, but of course I can't fucking remember it now.

what? no one's analyzed Pablo Cruise yet? But apparently Leo Sayer's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" warranted two comments, neither of which is an explanation of the song's meaning.

I also find it interesting that Madonna's "Into the Groove" is about (surprise!) sex.

Argh. I was on hold with the insurance company Monday and was lucky enough to hear "Love Will Find A Way" during my 20 minute telephone prison sentence.

Man, there are some stunningly insightful comments on Nickelback's repertoire.

from an explanation on Limp Bizkit's "Nookie":

by shibbys_alternative on 05-10-2002 @ 02:38:56 PM
This song kicks ass! The history behind this song is that Fred Durst was going out with a girl, and she broke up with him. Then she wanted him back and tried to make up with him by taking him some cookies. He threw them out the window because, of course, he did it all for the nookie baby! Gotta love it!

this song is on the popular radio station smack in between your crappy britney spears "im a slave 4 u" and your ja-rule and j-lo. go figure how such a great song can be put next too songs that have no meaning

Does anyone know of a site that details the meaning behind band names? That I would be interested in.

A-HA! I found it! This one I like better than the grabbag of juice's find. It's probably not as expansive, though.

Neither site helped me figure out what the hell "Levon" is about.

I always just thought it was a fictional song about a colorful redneck who'd been wounded in Vietnam, inspired by Levon Helm, but not factually about him.

It's about building a song around the single most awkward lyric in music history (that would be "Alvin Tostig has a son today").

Even more awkward than "No one answered, not even the chair?"

I present the most awkward lyrics of ever:

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
Oh, no
No, no
Oh no!!

Yeah, but "McArthur Park" is half a goof anyway (I refuse to believe Jimmy Webb meant it seriously).

I always thought it woudl be cool to have a site that posted the lyrics of songs and annotated them, not for "meaning" or interpretation, but details about actual lyrical content. It wouldn't really be a factor for a lot of songs, but many songs do have references that not everyone is going to get. Television Personalities songs would be good because they fill them with so many names of people and places (for example, "Posing at the Roundhouse").

Half Man Half Biscuit songs would have enough annotations to fill the whole site.
