Memphis no, but Villanova maybe.

'Nova will go down early, as will the rest of the Big East. I don't think Seton Hall belongs in the tourney. We'll see after Rutgers bounces them on Wednesday.

Did you see the little note that Peter King had in today's column?

Quote:
a. Rutgers basketball coach Gary Waters took a buyout from the university the other day, effective at the end of the season. On his way out the door he said the dumbest thing a coach had said this year: "We had a plan to get to the Final Four and we came pretty close.''

I see. Five years without one NCAA Tournament appearance. That's like the manager of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays saying: "We had a plan to get to the World Series and we came pretty close.'' Well, Gary, you coach a Division I college basketball team, but the closest you got to the Final Four while at Rutgers was sitting in the stands at one. What do these guys think? That they can say anything and the dopes out here will just nod and believe?

You need outstanding guard play to advance and Nova has that in spades. The Big East is so deep that, at least 4 teams will make it to the Sweet 16 by default. I also see 3 MVC teams in the Regionals.

Don't sell Gary short--Waters took the team to the NIT final game. This year will be his third NIT appearance. He's brought in recruiting classes that the school could only dream about ten years ago. In short, he's done a great job establishing the program's credibility. He's also handing over the reins to his hand-picked successor (who, incidentally is from New Jersey--that's huge for in-state recruiting--see the job Schiano's done with the football team).

I can see Villanova, UCONN, Pitt, West Virginia and possibly BC make the sweet 16, I really don't see 3 of 5 MVC conference teams make it .
I can see Seton Hall knocking out Wichita State in the first round.
Nevada will beat Bradley
Boston College will beat Missouri State
Marquette will beat Northern Iowa
George Mason could easily upset Southern Illinois and the MVC could go 0-5 on the first day.

The Shockers and Northern Iowa could easily make the Elite 8. I'm not going by Lunardi's matchups as that guy gets the teams correct, but never the proper seedings. But, going by those matchups... Nevada is a tough one for Bradley but I see WSU, MOST, UNI and Southern all winning. George Mason has hit the skids down the stretch and they don't have that 30 year old, George Evans, who served in Desert Storm anymore! That guy was awesome.

The MVC is no joke this year... I'd also like to see Creighton sneak in over another crappy SEC/Pac 10 school.

As long as that "crappy" SEC team isn't Arkansas, I'd like to see that too.

If you combine the East and West Divisions, Alabama is the #3 team in the SEC.

I just don't see Creighton deserving of a bid, besides their decent conference wins they only have two wins over tournament bound/major conference opponents and those teams are George Mason and Nebraska.
They really needed to do better in the tournament than they did, and they should probably fall into the NIT
I think they'd probably need to drop a team from the Big Ten before they targeted the SEC or Pac-10 who have fewer teams. Arizona and Cal both fall into the Maryland category, they played a brutal schedule and lost a few too many games to be locks, but probably deserve their spots. All I can say is that if neither of those teams deserve it neither do both Michigan and Michigan State.

I think we (LSU) need to at least make the SEC tourney semis to cement a top 4 seed. Getting healthy is the biggest concern right now. Without Tyrus Thomas and Darrel Mitchell at 100%, it'll be a tough road.

With Marquette's move from C*USA to Big East, I salute your sentiment.

As well, I still cannot believe that MU took fourth in conference (regular season).

But, I'm elated.
