Perhaps he should just retire now.

Is this really saying much new though?

I don't care how much speculation they have, they still don't have a smoking gun and until they do Barry isn't going anywhere.

I mean, Selig would just have to say "In light of the avalanche of testimony and speculation all records after 98 are to be thrown out". Ain't happening.

Think it's a coincidence this is being released just days before opening day?

For the record: I think he is the most insufferable human being ever and that "American Idol" shit he pulled was so contrived it's a joke.

rick, you are one weird dude. who gives a crap about the american idol thing. hardly worth getting worked up over.

nevermind all this steroids crap. they all use them. and before they used steroids, they used whatever speed they could get their hands on. in fact, cracking down on the speed is going to have a much bigger effect on the game than the steroids. there's hardly a record in baseball that was set by someone without a little chemical help. why pick on barry bonds?

mlb has known exactly who has been taking what all this time, and the only reason it's going to change is congressional pressure. any fan with half a brain cell knew what was going on too.

meanwhile, the congressional pressure is only to distract us from bigger issues. unless you believe that they are really really concerned about the health issues for all the kids who are going to take steroids. what a joke.

i will never understand all the barry bonds hate. the guy has never won anything. and in terms of integrity, he's in the majority of mlb players.

I just wish he would retire so we can move on from the supposed steroid era. I think it speaks for itself that both Sosa and Bonds have done poorly since all this blew up in baseball's face. And I don't want to have to watch all Giants games on ESPN because of him playing this season.

because he's a fucking asshole to people?

that's why I hate him. He's a self-righteous jerk in denial who cheated the game egregiously.

The reason the American Idol thing annoyed me was because of my hatred of Barry. Nothing to do with steroids. It doesn't strike you as plastic as fuck? This guy has built a rep over 15 years as being the most difficult stand offish shithead ever and then the one season where he will challenge for the holiest(sp?) of records AND has a reality show crew following him around he all of a sudden is Mr. Goodtime Fun Guy.

The reason I pick on Bonds is because the thread was about Barry Bonds and if you read my post I'm not even picking on him. I said that it doesn't matter what comes out in that book. It's all been said before and nothings changing.

I'm sure athletes have always used something to get an edge and I'm fine with that, but, you can't tell me as a baseball fan you like watching these records get completely shattered when you know they're are doing it with help. You said it yourself:

"Any fan with half a brain cell knew what was going on."

Does that make it right?

Personally, I'd hate to see him break Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron's record.

When he passes Ruth, I may be too depressed to care bout the rest of the season.

This is some sentence:

In addition to detailing the drug usage, the excerpt portrays Bonds as a menacing boor, a tax cheat and an adulterer given to (probably because of the rampant steroid use) sexual dysfunction, hair loss and wild mood swings that included periods of rage.

i feel comfortable assuming i am one of the biggest fans here as i have watched or listened to every red sox game for the last decade despite not having lived in boston since that streak began...

and i will agree that as a baseball fan, i don't particularly enjoy seeing records shattered by people who are obviously cheating. however, individual records are not of any real impotance to me. if you are telling me that you didn't enjoy baseball as much during the summer of mac and sammy as you normally would, i don't believe you. also, i caught a game in sf the year barry broke that record and when he came to the plate, that park was electric. i don't really like barry, but i don't hate him either. how can you blame him or anyone else for cheating when the incentives are there and the enforcement isn't?

and really how can you blame mlb? people like seeing those records challenged. contrary to popular (blinder induced) belief, athletes are not going to get bigger, stronger, and faster naturally. so existing records, most of which were set either in the greenie or steroid eras anyway are likely to stand forever. also, on the issue of statistical records, they weren't accurately kept until very recently, and many of the statistcs that we take as fact are pieced together for error-laden newspaper box scores, so plenty of these records are mere estimation anyway.

for me, i find it much more offensive that the red sox lost game 7 of the 2003 alcs in extra innings after watching juiced up goon jason giambi launch 2 moonshots. but really am i going to sit here and pretend than none of my beloved sox ever spiked a buttock?

individual players taking the heat on this is a shame.

This is actually the book jacket copy of my autobiography

I'd like to know what chemical enhancements allowed Hank Aaron to achieve his record.

Not a performance enhancer, at least not the last time I checked.

How is this speculation? "BALCO tracked Bonds' usage with doping calendars and folders -- detailing drugs, quantities, intervals and Bonds' testosterone levels -- that wound up in the hands of federal agents upon their Sept. 3, 2003 raid of the Burlingame, Calif., business."
