You can get a nice receiver and decent (aka much better than that glorified clock radio) speakers for that price.

Don't feel dumb - you've probably heard plenty of praise for it over the years via the radio and print ads, but most people see the light once they actually give it a listen. I think $100 is a more reasonable price.

You shouldn't...the really dumb guy would've bought one without asking around about it.

Aside from that, IMO : Bose = waaaaay overrated & overpriced.

They get a very good sound for the size and simplicity of it, but they also charge 4x what it's worth. They sound good for what they are... expensive clock radios.

Get you a nice Onkyo receiver and a choice set of upscale bookshelf speakers.
