B-rate derivative toss, that's what they are. Fuckin hell if this is the best that Glasgow can do these days then.......honestly, they are total shite. Their songs may have a catchy little hooks, but do catchy hooks a good band make-NO! So boring, so typical of the crap that people lap up these days 'cos there is not so much else on the go. Sad really, but true. File under: re-hashed, self-conciously cool 80s chique that is better off forgotten.

Just because they don't reference Gary Gygax in any of their songs.

Why don't you just piss off back to your sad little adolescent world of long black coats, satan worshipping hand gestures, 20 sided D&D dice, big hair and Craig Goldie guitar posing and shut the fuck up.

A Craig Goldie from Dio reference!

Look, he's only three-and-a-half feet tall...but he's a legend. And maybe even a elf to boot. Seriously, we really need more threads that examine RJD and less about hate for FF.

some of us hated them from the beginning, not out of indie anything. first time i heard this shit i knew it was shit. a defense of music should not be that it is "Catchy with hooks"

that does not make good music, it makes empty bullshit that i wouldn't play shuffledboard with, let alone put into a stereo.

franz ferdiinand is the biggest shit this year has poured out and the fact that so many indie-trendy-hipster lameass college kids hopped on this band as soon as take me out started getting any rotation is testament to how much it sucks.

so derivative, so uninteresting, lameass fucking lyrics that make me want to kill myself, etc etc etc.

they're almost worse than bush.

Just because you are going through a 'I'm so trendy, honest guv' stage and distancing yourself-in a Jungian fashion-from the metal (yes, not mental) archetypes you clearly spent your youth projecting your male fantasies onto, there's no need to be a nasty pants to me. Go and stick your half-baked eclecticism up your arse and bring it out again when it's ready. Gumby.

Dio pisses on FF from the heights of his silver mountain and some of us aren't afraid to admit it. WE ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dio uses the junior-sized urinal that is hung a foot lower, so there.

Plus, he sued the band Dios (a la espanola, God, not from the name Dio made possessive or plural) for trading on his name... So, I don't think he's aiming too big a weapon into that short-person's piss-pot either. He needs a little ego stroking, then, eh?

Their music doesn't rub me the wrong way, but what I really effing hate is that the douche on MTV2 insists on introducing them the same annoying way EVERY FUCKING TIME:
Frrrrrroohhhhnz Faaaiiiiiirrrrrrrrdeenaaaaand

I wanna stab that guy.

Amusing ad hominem, but therefore by definition utterly irrelevant in criticising Dio. Taking legal action under the circumstances may nor may not have been a justifiable action, who knows? It still does not make any difference in discussing musical talent. He may be a wee guy but he's got buckets and buckets of talent.

If you ignore the title cut and "Rainbow In The Dark", "Holy Diver" is a phenomenal record (yes, record, that thing that used to be pressed into vinyl). Couple that with Sab's "Mob Rules" and you've a good hour and a half of fine listening indeed.

i went to see them at austin city limits and could not have been more bored. it just became unnervingly evident that all of their songs were pretty much exactly the same format with the same driving bassline and that they were not going to play or write anything outside of their stupid danceable sound ever. they were definitely the most boring band i saw live in 2004.

it's funny that we saw the same performance and came away with completely different perceptions.

you definitely had the experience that most people there did. me and my buddy zack were standing there in the middle of this giant crowd of screaming idiots just looking at each other shaking our heads wondering what it was that we were missing.

i wish i could like franz ferdinand...my musical conscience just doesn't let me.

Just joking around. Sorry for the bad vibes. Also Billzebub: what are your thoughts on Heaven and Hell and Rainbow stuff then?
