Never had the opportunity to see a show there, how big is it? Hold about 2,000?

I think it's closer to 1200 or 1400 but I'm not sure of the exact capacity.

It's a good venue but it's really hard to get around when it's sold out. I enjoy shows much more there when it's not filled to capacity.

1100 to be exact. You really can't beat that place and now it's smoke free. I've seen some absolutely classic shows there over the years.

Thanks, guys. I'm driving up to Chicago next month to see Ours, and I wanted to know what to expect at the Metro.

What night are they playing? Check out the dinner specials at The Full Shilling, pretty much right next door. Hard to beat the $6 steak.

Stay away from Wrigley Dog.

If you want to up the ante, walk south on clark past addison, and go grub at Heaven on 7, cajun/creole. Not the real thing, but as close as you'll get anywhere in the midwest.

Dorkestra knows all the restaurants next to venues.

Hey, musicians gotta eat either before or after the gig, ya know?

I've got rituals for every venue I play at. Double Door is Bluefin before the show(great sushi), and sometimes Flash Taco after, and even though The Note is right across the street from The Double Door, when I play there it's Papajin (Chinese) before the show, then the convenience store for a Naked Juice (Mango), and then Swank Franks for a slice after the late set. Schuba's is Harmony Grill before, but El Milagro after. You get the idea.

Other musicians are the same way too. All of LS gets a falafel after playing the Fox in Boulder. It just kind of happens that way.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have my heart set on some deep dish while I'm up there. It's probably the #1 thing I miss about Chicago.

Oh, and the show is Saturday April 18th.

Closest would be Chicago's on Sheffield and Wrightwood.

I think I'm in the minority, but I never really liked the Metro that much. I'll take the Riviera over Metro anyday.

Haven't played the Riv. You going via the L or driving? If driving, there's alot of asian joints that way, it's near a big korean pocket. Reza's on Clark isn't far either, and mighty tasty mediterranean.

i prefer the metro to the riv. but if you are looking for good food in a layed back atmosphere close to the riv, there is a bar a block away called 'the crew' that i really dig.

I've been to the Reza's downtown. It's yummy. Awful television ads though.

Driving, and we might be doing Asian.

Reza's is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the city. I used to have them deliver at least once a week for a few months.

Phil, I know Papajin's. When I lived in Wicker Josh and I used to order sushi from them all the time. It was one of the things we've missed the most since moving from that area.

There is a 24 hour Mexican place on the NW corner of Lawrence and Broadway that is pretty decent for being a 24 hour mexican place in Uptown.

The Chinese food place is above average too. On the NE corner.

I a few months ago ate five Chicago hot dogs at Wrigleyville Dogs after a Metro show. (Smoking Popes) I'd recommend that place anyday, especially after a show.

My favorite hot dog place growing up in Chicago was Jeff's on Cicero, near Six Corners. Mainly because it was a short bike ride from my house, and they gave you a shitload of fries.

Phil's opinions on greasy food and karaoke bars are not valid, but he should be trusted for all other food-related issues.

If you have a car you should go to Weiner Circle after every concert at the Metro.

Additionally, if you have a car you should not plan on bringing it with you if you're attending a show at the Metro.

Got sick at Wrigley Dog, and I've got THE iron stomach. Touring musician, grew up with hot ass indian food, etc...

Wiener Circle is better, but Hot Doug's is the shit.

If you've never eaten there, you're missing out.

Chicago's is on Sheffield and Wellington, not Wrightwood. Either way it's awesome.
