Oh gosh, were you just watching it, Joe? Me too!! Dammit, I was crying the last 15 mins of that show. Sheesh! I'm so glad I was alone, sniffling and blubbering.

(Though, it was really sweet that the family got what they wanted.)

I'm perfectly down with all the nerdiness and all...I just don't know what this show is or why it makes people cry...

is it some deal where they make ugly people sad about being ugly?

no sir. they take people who have really rough lives, like this one lady who adopted a bunch of orphaned kids with HIV and then came down with cancer and then they tear down their house to nothing and rebuild it. And I am talking they rebuild it with hundreds of thousands of dollars of stuff. It's really quite amazing.

I've only seen it twice and never the entire show. But, the premise is based on a family being chosen to have their home renovated. Their home is usually shoddy and in need of repair or too small. A design team comes in and in one week's time (yes, hard to believe), a new home is made.

It's not the renovation part that's sappy, it's the family. Cuz they've usually experienced some traumatizing event in their lives and it's nice to see good things happen to what appear to be nice people.

Here's how sappy I am. When I was a kid, I'd watch game shows and cry when the winner won. I won't even begin to tell you about watching sad moments on cartoons.

Aww, that's a really sweet and good idea for a show. No shame in crying about that...it would probably get to me. Good to see that television sometimes cares about people who actually need help.

Nice things happening to nice, deserving people is a nice thing.
A good "twist" on the shit you usually see on TV. And there is no shame involved in being sucked in.

I watched it last night too. I cried my heart out. I can't believe how much this show got to me. At one point, I couldn't see from all the tears in my eyes. The best moment was when the father started crying because his 18 year old son finally got his own room.

Yes. And at the end of each show, I'm near tears thinking what can I do to help people? I could hammer stuff. Swell. Television.

I was thinking about starting a thread about this show after yesterdays episode! Just a good show, the decorators are actually good (always have great, clever designs), and I think Paul is one of the most creative people in the world, in any field. I would love to have a home done by them (really, I would just love to have a home! They don't do apartments).

My killer moment was when the dad turned around and saw the portrait of his wife. Oh man, I lost it right there and then.

Oh yeah, and then the kids came in and couldn't hold their emotions. Classic moment.

Yes they do. They did the apartment of two NY fire fighters who lost a bunch of their fire fighting friends on 9/11. Not only that, but the apartment was done in one day, with the final hour being live.

I think the show is one of the better shows on broadcast TV, just because it is the only show doing something nice for people who could use a nice thing or two.

Though the design teams seems to be talented and have their act together, I think they go a little far when building the kids' rooms. Sure, an 8 year old kid is going to love having a skateboard themed bedroom now, but what about in 5 years? When he find his room to be lame and wants a normal room, how's the down-on-their-luck family doing to get the money for normal furnishings?

Maybe I shouldn't look so deep into it.
