Ive been thinking about this the last week; it's not all that far away.

Who will be the dem candidate? Is Hillary Clinton moderate enough to be picked? Is the US ready to have a woman leader? John Edwards? Kerry, Gore or Dean? Evan Bayh? Too early for Obama to run?

And will the GOP candidate be McCain? Has Cheney fucked up too much to be viable? George Allen? Another Bush?

It's kinda hard to follow US politics out of the US, so im wondering who you lot think are viable candidates.

I doubt Cheney will run. I think it'll come down to McCain and George Allen with Allen edging him out. The dems would be stupid to run Hilary.

The field is crowded. Much more crowded than first appears, with several "factions" of each party vying for control.

Reps have some intriguing choices, George Allen and McCain among them, but look for an "ideas" candidate to emerge, either Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (Bible Thumper, and former bigfatfuck-turned-marathoner) Sam Brownback (KS Senator, converted Cath-o-lic, who really wants to help Africa) or even Newt Gingrich (a dude who knows a thing or two about steering a party back onto course)

Dems have the usual retreads and BORING people (Kerry, Bayh), A washed up trial lawyer with a great haircut who will be destroyed for his pandering (Edwards) A General who should go home and win at least ONE office in his home state before trying to tell us how to run a country and war (Clark) A moody, uptight and off kilter bitch (Hillary) who looks to be the front runner. And 2 darkiehorses who are vying for the same votes, only one of which can and will emerge as the anti-Hillary (Vilsack and Warner, with Warner the odds-on as anti-Hil)

Obama, unfortunately, is black. He is an AMAZING presence, fundraiser and rising star. But they will parade motherfuckers in black face and distribute flyers about "keeping our women free from the clutches of beasts" before a brother (even a half-African brother) runs this country.

This election depends as much on conditions in the country, and what happens in '06 concering mo-mentum as it does on the candidate. If we can get a disciplined message machine in place, and capitalize on the modd of the country, Dems have a shot. Hillary lets the Republicans keep using all the old voodoo they;ve been ginning up for what seems like 100 years now. I would rather we didn't have to go through that, and could nominate a candidate SOMEONE can be proud of.

yeah, but Newt is about to get assrammed in the Abramoff trial, isn't he?

Cheney has the lowest approval rating in american history. 18%. He ain't running for shit. Besides, I think he enjoys being the shadow guy more than anything anyway.

I would fucking LOVE Vilsack t be nominated. I think he's the best shot they have. Sadly, I don't think it's gonna happen.

Obama. The guy is a superstar, but he's still too young and without enough experience in my eyes to make a solid run (at least that's what he'll get blasted for by the right -that and the McCain thing). Still, dude would be the best option in as perfect world..

If they run Hillary, I am officially joining the Black Panther political party.

Right now, since there's pretty much zero chance Obama will run this soon, I'm leaning toward McCain. Although, I'd actually be full-blown enthusiastic about it were he to run as an Independent, rather than a Republican. Being a down-the-middle moderate and all, I'm not thrilled about casting a vote for either party at this point.

Don't forget about Joe Biden. He seems pretty fucking serious. I actually love the man, but I think he does better work for America in the Senate. (same with Hilly Baby--she is becoming a pretty formidable legislative force.)

As always, it will be a very sad election for moderates and left-wingers.

i think you're defining moderates in a way that's convenient for you, so of course you're going to be disappointed.

I thought after his failed run in '88, that he'd permanently taken his sights off the Oval Office, but apparently he's just been Biden his time until 2008.

Yeah, I don't think I qualify as a Borg moderate. I'm equidistant from the extreme left and the extreme right.

Nyuck, Nyuck

Smiley Joe will do what he always does: Make noise and then juh chill.

He is a great Senator, but he also makes Kerry look like the strong, silent type.

Greenspan is predicting a serious 3rd party candidate for this election or next in his new book. Said both parties have left a serious divide in the middle.
