Anyway, it's changing the way I hear their music. A lot of insight here into how they created their records.

It's mostly semi-technical stuff about techniques used/invented for certain songs. Not a lot of "dirt", so this is not the book for you if that is what you're looking for.

What I take away from this the most is just how damn HARD they worked at trying to make something different... at pushing the envelope. And it reinforces what you hear in the music about how damn creative they were.

Just a really great read. Strongly recommended for anybody that has an interest in the recording process...epa.

'Revolution In The Head' by Ian McDonald is also a excellent read.

McDonald (one of my favourite music writers, sadly he committed suicide a couple of years ago) writes an excellent essay on music in the 1960's and then goes on to pen a critical analysis of each and ever Beetles tracks.

It's one of those books were you have to have the albums cued up as you read the book.

Oh wow...I didn't know this book was still in print. I got it for Christmas almost ten years ago, and at the time, I didn't care too much about the technical details of the sessions. I did care about their guitars, amps and effects, though, so I basically looked at it as a coffee table book. Then, a couple years ago, I got as into recording as I was into guitars, and I enjoyed it on an entirely different level.

So, so good.

Wait till you try and cover Strawberry Fields Forever and you get to the reverse tape loop section and say, how do i recreate that? Then you look in the book, it tells you what freaking notes they played FORWARD so you can create your own tape loop to reverse. HOW FUCKING HOTT IS THAT?!?!?

What's killing me about that song these days is the way it slips into 3/4 time for just 3 measures in the chorus and it's so GODDAMN SEAMLESS that I only noticed it for the first time like, 6 months ago!

I'm readig how they recorded The Beatles now and shaking my head at how much they put into "Ob-La-Di...". That song took them, like, 50 re-makes and 4 months of intensive recording to finish. John was completely fed up with it by the end of it all.

So, uh, I spent about 20 minutes tuning my guitar last night.

I need to get a electronic tuner.
