Kind of inspired by the spade kitty "best album of" threads of yore (which spanned 1965-2001) -- which decade do you think featured the best music (whatever "best" means to you), not just limited to albums. And why?

(i know the 00's aren't over and are fairly recent to judge, but thought to include 'em anyway)

Also kind of inspired by a friend's assertion that the 80s are the best decade ever.

60's with the 70's following very close behind.

I would also like to write in a vote for the 50's.

I'll say 80's and 90's.

I think you have to really live in a decade to full grasp the musical landscape.

I was too young in the 70's and not alive in the 60's to know anything but the music that outlived the decade..does that make sense?

Unless you really know your stuff, this poll could have been called which decade were you a teenager in?

i do LOVE the 60's and 70's music..and even some of the 80's. but like dov said...the 90's music means more to me personally. i mean, i never saw any of my favorite 60's and 70's bands live in their prime....

Do you really think 80% of us were teenagers in the 60's and 70's?

70's wins for me hands down.

this really just comes down to another "favorite" vs. "best" argument.

and plus....its easy to say that the 60's and 70's had the best bands, cause all the crap ones have been forgotten and erased from the annals of musical discussion...

In 30 years, nobody is going be talking bout the horrid bands of today. Theyll remember the Radioheads, Wilco's, Metallica's and all the artists that made a real long term mark on us.....

But growing up in the era, we will remember the crap that existed as well...

I dunno.

I went with the 60s. If the question was which decade has your favorite music I would have picked the 90s.

'70s. I was only alive for three months of that decade, but it contains my favorite periods of music and large chunk of my favorite albums.

Hard to choose between the '60s and '90s for me. The '60s produced some crucial stuff that I really love but seem mostly dominated by a smaller pool of artists. The '90s, on the other hand, encompass my teenage years and the development of my interest in music.

So far I like the '00s decade more than the '80s.

i still have yet to decide. i don't really connect with most 60s music. 80s stuff seems a bit glossy and the 90s stuff is pretty tough to call like the decade had 2 diff personalities -94 94+. 00s is tough to call cuz it's so recent (but i created that decision problem). 60s, 70s and 90s decades seem the most "groundbreaking" to me...

I voted 1970s. Stevie Wonder, Neil Young & Bruce Springsteen? Lawd Almighty!

1980s blow ass. BOO! HISS!

i voted 60s.

70s had too much horseshit.

80s wasn't all that bad to me just due to the output of a few bands.

90s and 00s - too soon to tell.

Most decades are like that. 1962 was a vastly different time than 1968, at least based on the rock, pop, and r&b records that were put out.

I guess the 90s. I don't know. It's hard for me to be objective about this. If I listed out all of my fav records, the bulk would come from the 80s and 90s with the occasional dip into the 60s, 70s, and 00s.

I think the 80s get maligned way too often. There was a lot of crap for sure, but I think that's true of any decade. With that said, however, I would most likely vote the 70s, only because many artists from the 70s really excited me and paved the way for a lot of the cool bands that WERE out in the 80s.

I consider '77 - '79 to be in the 80's. I likewise consider '88 - '89 to be in the 90's. So there!
